Air Bag Code

'06 R53. My red airbag light is on. I read the code with INPA and it's a ZAE2 with a description of "airbag head right". I assume that's the curtain airbag that runs along the top of the passenger side window? It says, "remain over limiting value"

Back on this. Really need to get it resolved.

In addition to the ZAE2 code it says:
-----------------------------------------
11 ignition circuit 7 -> airbag head right
Error frequency : 49
Remain over limiting value
----------------------------------------
I removed the interior panel on the right side of the car, removed the cable to the battery, removed the cable to the airbag, sprayed with electrical cleaner, and reassembled. Cleared the error with INPA but it's still there.

What code you have? Maybe post a pic of the inpa screen?

Do u have the wiring diagram? U could take readings at the plug

Well I wrote everything in teh code above but I'll post a pic anyway.

I can certainly take readings at the plug but I need to know what I'm looking for. Hoping someone can help with how to diagnose this.

There are small resistors you can buy that will keep the error and light out.

id not use those as a permanent fix but it can be a good test. If the error goes away with the right resistance, you know your prob is the airbag…

ssoliman, thanks! I didn't see it specifically but I'm assuming the 3.2 ohm resistor will work for the head airbag.

I'm ordering a resistor kit from Amazon with a bunch of different ratings.

Resurrecting this thread as I am getting back into this issue. I tried a resister which didn't work but I think the wattage was too low.

Anyway, I need to diagnose this issue and get it resolved finally. I went to the junk yard and cut the wires to the airbag connector and measured resistance. I got 2.2 ohms. So I took that connector to my garage, plugged it into my airbag and got 2.3 ohms. Does anyone know what the tolerance is? Is that .1 ohm causing this error code or am I looking for something else?

I just found a post in this thread that says the range is 1.8 to 4. That's for the seats though. Also I see posts where people say the 3.9 resister didn't work but the 2.2 did.

In any case, I don't need to make the light go off, I actually want to resolve the issue. Any help with troubleshooting this would be appreciated.

Wondering if you got to the bottom of things. My '05 R52 just popped the Airbag light on so I made sure to check and charge battery and cables. Light still present as of 1st test drive. I have an OBD scanner on my Santa list so the New Year project is to find the fault. Any help from your experience is appreciated.
Cheers

Unfortunately no amount of charging, cable checking, even repairing a bad airbag or known issue will make an airbag light go out without actively resetting it with a capable diagnostic tool/scanner or computer program.

One cause could be a faulty passenger seat occupancy sensor which can trigger an airbag light. The first model year for it was 2005. Have you run your VIN on MINI’s website to see if it’s part of the recall for that part? https://www.miniusa.com/owners/tools...rt/recall.html

There was also a power steering pump recall that might include your car.

It was teh squib connected to teh battery cable. Cut teh wires, disconnected teh plug, soldered a resister to the wires

Amazon Amazon

reconnected, cleared teh code with INPA.

Thanks for quick reply

Santa has put a Scanner in the sleigh for me and I will look closely at the Terminal Squib. You both are kind to reply so quickly and I will report back with the solution found. Cheers
