Help Please. Best way to remove 3M Double-sided tape.

One of my added chrome pieces (rear tail light) has never fit right. Prior to initially attaching, I didn't think it fit right--but being impatient--and--having already put one side on--which was a perfect fit--I put it on. Well I contacted the vendor who had me contact the Manufacturer--Autotechnica-who told me they would ship me a new part. My question--what is a tried and true way to remove the ill fitting 3M double sided tape attached chrome tail light surround piece, without tearing up the area around my tailight? Thanks. Nick

You may want to try a hair dryer or a heat gun on a low setting to heat the piece and the tape which will help you to soften the glue and pull the piece off.

CustomAv is correct, Mama's blow-dryer works great. I've used that tech many times.

Now once you get the piece off, getting the tape residue off will, really drive you up the wall. The best method I've used involves the sacrifice of a few layers of thumb skin!

I've tried Goof-off and WD-40 but that stuff just makes things slippery.

Good luck and props to the vendor for covering the ill fitting piece

I have good luck pulling 3M tape parallel to the mounted surface.
by parallel, I do not mean picking up the edge, bending the tape, and
pulling parallel.

Take the edge and just pull parallel to the mounted surface away from the
rest of the tape. Just pull sloooowly and the tape should pull off
together. No need to use any goo gone, etc.

One of my tricks for when I have to take off loooong pieces off
aero parts, trims, etc.

WD40 desolves the adhesive, spray on and wait a second then wipe, repeat if needed. If that doesnt work a blow torch is a for sure thing.
