this site (NAM) is the only web forum I use regularly for MiNi stuff

all the other web sites run by clubs have died and the activity shifted to FB. The reason is easy to see: to run a web site takes time and usually money to pay someone to host the site. FB is free and there's very little maintenance effort required. I don't think the format works as well (opinion) but the price is right.

Sunshineminis is a good example .... they had a very good web forum and allowed 'sub groups' in the form of local groups to operate under their umbrella .... but it cost money for the hosting service and to maintain the basic forum software .... so activity was moved to FB .....

The web site still exists ... not actively used but is up (some one had free server space) so you can look back for research or just see 'how it was'

correct the SSM site is not what I would call 'active'

but someone <in addition to me> realized there was good info therein and having server space lifted the site to their host .... it is NOT being maintained or updated ... but it is there .....

btw ... UPDATE became the kiss of death. The software driving the FORUM system needed to be updated and this costs ..... SSM was never / is not a club as such ... not much more than a web presence. With no 'dues' finding the $ to pay for the new software on top of server space became the final nail ...... HELLLOOOO free FB Groups!

 

I know you said you dont have a Fb account anymore but go create one with some other name, example my account was the name of my MINI (Emma Cooper) and us it for just the MINI events and discussions.

I understand people not having or wanting an account but, all the groups use it now.

Thank You. Orlando is around 2 hours from me. Was planning on being there dec 6th for festival of speed but they moved it. So entering one in st pete january 10 and orlando january 24th.

been in talks with East of the Bay group. It’s closer to me. Meets are in tampa.
