JCW Brembo Brake Bleeder Nipple Broken
JCW Brembo Brake Bleeder Nipple Broken
Hey fellow JCW fans!
I spent the majority of today replacing my brake rotors & pads on my 09 R55 JCW. After I got everything together, I performed a brake bleed because it was well overdue. I think 4yrs since the last flush. Long story short, I broke the bleeder nipple on the front left Brembo caliper. I suspect it was cross-threaded or really, really, REALLY stuck in place. The nipple wouldn't freely rotate as I attempted to open the line to flush the system. It was still hard to close off and I noticed fluid weeping from the nipple. It wouldn't stop. I did not fully remove the nipple to investigate further. Additionally, I did not open the front left line because I didn't want to press my luck further. It was a long, sweaty, and knuckle-busting day. BTW, the last time the front brakes were worked on was back in 2016. It was serviced at a dealership in Sacramento. Uggh! I hate when other people have to work on my car!
Is there any way to repair the damage to the caliper or should I bite the bullet for a new caliper? Has anyone else had a similar problem? If you happen to know of another thread that covered a similar problem then could you refer me to that thread? There wasn't anything super obvious when searching for "broken bleed nipple".
For those wondering, I used the brake maintenance kit from MiniMania - EBC red brake pads, standard rotors, and 2 new wear sensors. It was a snap installing them. The hard part was removing the old equipment.
