Drivetrain Can the BPV be left tied closed?
Can the BPV be left tied closed?
Hello,
I believe I have a bad BPV on my R53. I currently have it tied closed, and I want to know how long I can leave it that way. I read that the only purpose of the BPV is fuel economy- so does that mean I can leave it that way for as long as I need so long as I can accept losing a few MPGs? There are no other risks?
Thanks in advance

I was under the impression the bypass valve reduces loading on the blower. If anything, I would block it OPEN, and plan on replacing it as soon as possible. At $150 for a modified version, seems like cheap insurance against a worn out supercharger replacement.

Or just by a new one and mod it yourself > https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4545949
I would also stick it in open now and only do "light" driving.
