Correct length oil dipstick ????

I got my new dipstick in the mail and it is longer than the one I have In my car. Lol, which one is the correct length ? If i took my guess the new one ( red flexible ) is the correct length as my car takes about 5.5qt to get to the correct fill line on the yellow one that came with my car..I attached pics below.

Pretty sure you can undo the hex at the top, then shorten it or push it in, whatever works.

And if the yellow one came with car that would be the correct length, there are post about the flexible ones being too long, especially if from eBay or amazon and not from cravenspeed.

The craven ones are intentionally longer than the OEM and generally don't need adjustment, it's just the way they designed the scale to read lower. Assuming that's a genuine craven, here's their guide on reading it: https://www.cravenspeed.com/the-dips...6/#description

iirc the stock dipstick shows a range of 1qt below full to full. So the top of the hash range shows full and the low mark on the hashes means add 1qt. I believe this is what the owners manual shows as well, but it’s worth double checking.

Can anyone verify that their stock oil dipstick is the same length as mine ? It wouldn't be the 1st thing I found wrong in my car . Lol I bet if this isn't the stock dipstick I bet if I drop my oil pan I will find the old one if so.

Ok. I see how to now correctly read the stock dipstick and the cravenspeed one. I did need to adjust it inward just alittle and now it reads perfectly and is sooooo much easier to read the oil level and not worry about it breaking off every time you do.. cool product !

That appears to be the knock off of the Craven one which we have seen this issue many times before with other people that bought them.

Get the original Craven one, or a stock one and don't risk not having enough oil.

I have mine still In the box if you need a picture. Sent directly from Cravenspeed. What I can tell you is mine doesn't look like the one you have pictured. The one I received didn't have a glossy finish.

I had a Craven dip stick...When compared to/lined up with OEM it's high mark was 1/2 qt or more LOW....sent it back for replacement....still no good.

I had a choice, make my own full mark or ship it back...I sent it back.

I'm guessing their vendor has dumped all those "bad" dip sticks on eBay....?

that's how mine was . But another member pointed out that you can adjust its length by removing a little screw in it and sliding it up or down.

So what exactly is the measurement of the OEM? I need to set mine, and have nothing to measure against.

I will measure mine and if yours is the same more than likely they're both stock.

Hey guys, there's a lot of info I think I can give you guys to provide some clarity. Firstly, obviously there are a bunch of counterfeit dipsticks out there. The most obvious difference is that the handle has a gloss finish. They'll also be missing our logo. There is a major difference in the way these counterfeiters attach the sinker which is the most concerning thing about their copy. They just crimp the sinker onto the spring. Through our own testing of various prototypes we've found this method to be inadequate. Instead we attach ours in such a way that you'd be hard pressed to separate the sinker and spring without damaging the spring.

As far as length goes I'd definitely advise checking any aftermarket dipstick you buy against the original before you use it. If you find that the length is off on one of ours, I do not recommend adjusting the length. Doing so may compromise the connection between the spring and the handle as the spring is crushed slightly when we initially install the set screw. I'd much rather send you a replacement, which we will do at no further expense to you. You can send an email to me, (logan@cravenspeed.com) or our support team (support@cravenspeed.com) with a photo demonstrating the discrepancy and we'll get a replacement out right away.

We do not buy these dipsticks from a common vendor. We designed and developed them over a decade ago. We work with local businesses in Oregon to have all of the parts made, including the spring. We assemble them in house at our hq in Portland. If you have any questions you can post them here, or send me an email! Thanks guys!

Mine for 2nd Gen (2009 R55) is accurate.
the top hole of the sinker reads the same
as the full line on the original OEM one
when compared one after the other.
Craven goes in and out much more
easily but need to hold the end with a
towel or something if the engine is
warmed up.
Both measure 19 3/8” from where the
plug meets the end of the tube to
the full line. The R50/53 ones have
a different length than the R55/56/etc.,
though.
