I'm reassembling my oil pump and I checked 2 sites, and one has the pressure relief valve facing one direction, and the other shows it turned the other way. Anybody know which way is correct? Also, one shows the O-ring between the lock ring and the spacer bush, and the other one doesn't. Is that where it goes? Thanks in advance!
That is odd. And kind of important to get right. Not sure this helps but Uncle Bentley would tend to agree with the latter diagram: Bentley, R53, p. 119-11
O-ring fits in the groove in the groove in the spacer/bushing. I would have to pull one apart for the direction of the relief valve...but I think goes in the direction of your first photo. If you have it the other way I don't think you can get it back together (will all be too long)..think the spring sits inside the relief valve..but I can have a look at one that I have apart...get back to you later
Thank you both! I tried it both ways. Like in the first pic of the relief valve with the holes and nub in first, the spring was loose inside, so I figured that wasn't right and probably wouldn't have any oil pressure. I put it in like the second pic (holes and nub towards outside with spring over nub) and there was pressure on spring (hard to push in and put in circlip!) so I figured that had to be the correct way! I then realized the o-ring was on the spacer as well. Thank you both for your replies!!!! This forum is great. Hopefully this will be of help to others in the future who are rebuilding their oil pump!
