Leason Learned - Hood Emblem Replacement

This may not be new information for all of you. But if not, hopefully it can save someone else from my mistake. I was swapping out the hood and trunk emblems today. Pretty straightforward. I ordered new emblems from ECS. The trunk was a piece of cake. No issues other than dealing with stubborn tape residue after removing the old emblem.

But the hood is where it got interesting. It turns out, there are two different emblem possibilities for a 2010 base coupe. I did not realize this until I removed the old hood emblem and was about to peel off the backing to place the new one.

I ordered and received: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...m/51142754973/
What I actually need is: https://www.ecstuning.com/b-genuine-...m/51142754972/

The difference is one has the posts higher up and closer together. The other one has the posts more in the center and the posts are two different sizes. Both show as compatible for a 2010 base coupe. So be careful when ordering one of these if you need one.

Yes, is in the notes. I figured that out after I realized something was off. This was my first purchase from ECS and I just missed that fact. I wasn't expecting two different part options within the same model year. No big deal. Now I know how that designation works on the website. Zero complaints with ECS, you guys have been great getting things set right.

Just following up, but using a DocaDisc makes getting tape and residue from the old emblems off sooooo much easier.

I just lost the plastic insert MINI logo on my R58 so now its all chrome, got to replace mine also. Floss and a heat gun help remove the old one.

I found that plastic strapping stuff used by bulk shippers or to hold boxes together works better than floss. Not sure what it is called though.

I wonder if one of these would work rather than replacing the entire emblem?

Are the ones on the back hatch just stuck on or do they have pegs also?

If you are going to reinstall the original emblem what adhesive should you use?

I used 3M double side red film sticky back tape. Like the low pound hold weight, you dont need the heavy stuff as emblems are not heavy. It has to be the super thin stuff. We used it and body work back in the day on emblems that you can get on 80-90s cars after a paint. If they did not have a screw type emblem.

That's for a full emblem, for just the center circle you could use a dab of glue from glue gun.

Exacto knife and a cutting board helps for the double sided
