R56 Oil Leak Cause?
Oil Leak Cause?
My 2011 JCW is leaking oil from under the front passenger side. Pretty much right under the dipstick (maybe a little behind it). Oil level doesn't seem to be dropping at all, and it's not a huge leak (couple of drops per night). Any ideas on the source?
In addition to the crank seal and pan gasket is the tensioner bolt. When it backs out, oil flows down the block behind the intake manifold and disguises itself as a pan gasket leak. We learned this the hard way
Let us know if you want to try to DIY. It is very straightforward yet expensive to pay someone else for due to the "book time." Soon DIYers will learn how easy it is to work on the r56 when you get a few things down.

Go to NEWTIS. Enter your Vin. Locate Tesioner bolt. I have an N12 engine and it is located behind the PCV outlet to the manifold on the head side of the intake. Tighten to spec.

Also, look to see if this part has been updated for your engine. My '08 had a new updated one. Replace if needed. Simply turn out with a crawfoot wrench in my case and replace. I may have had to loosen the intake but do not remember. For me that was just 5 10mm nuts.
