2008 Clubman base (fire damage) project
Hi guys. Haven’t been here in awhile. So long I forgot my other user credentials. Anyhow I once owned a 2003 base 5spd car and I absolutely loved it. But for some reason sold it and many years down the road I have the opportunity to get into another at a low price albeit I will be investing hours of wrench time. Just looking for thoughts and opinions.
The body is near mint as well as the interior. Hot chocolate Brown on matching brown with white piped leather. It’s exactly how I would have spec’d it new if I had ordered it, minus not having nav. Now the problem ; the car had an engine fire. Looking at it when opening the engine bay I couldn’t notice anything. After some deep diving. On the rear of the engine facing the firewall, I removed the air box and beneath it. I found the wiring harness to the starter fried, rubber shielding completely melted away. The intake manifold has signs of heat as it’s deformed and looks melted. There is a sensor at the back of the motor top of the engine facing the firewall at the outer most back side towards the passenger. That complete harness is exposed and burnt.
so I know I will need to pull and replace the intake, the air box, the engine harness and some sensors. Has anyone heard of seen this happening before. This car doesn’t show any age or damage except that harness.
Appreciate Ted any advice or thoughts. Thanks in advance
