Also my location is central Florida if that changes anything. Not sure if climate really matters for it. Thank you for your help.

5w-40 Liqui Moly Molygen here on both MINIs. Mann filter on my Gen 1, Purflux filter on my Gen 2 (what you need for your Countryman).

Most here seem to run Mann, Mahle or original BMW OEM. Whatever you choose, if you're at the store and find a box with an orange logo and a name that begins with the letter "F", put it back on the shelf and walk away.

Not even once.

I would second what iwashmycar said for oil. Everyone told me to use Mini OEM oil filters. In my case, I don't have a local MINI dealer, was going to order an OEM filter on ecs tuning but they want 7.99 just for shipping so if you find OEM somewhere for a good deal, please report back.

I've been using Fram filters on everything I own (and that's a lot of cars and a lot of years and miles). NEVER HAD ONE issue related to a Fram filter. I've seen on many various sites and forums this same kind of bash with ZERO proof.

It looks like your price point on the OEM filters themselves has the online market cornered. But, I consider this a pretty disappointing response. Mann or Mahle filters shipped to my door for 2.99 from rockauto.com, and I don't have 3 extra filters (~$40) setting on my shelf for 5000 miles a piece.

I ended up getting Mobile One European 0w40 because I don’t have work today and needed it done. I got a purolater filter but am probably going to get oem next time. Just was on a tight time crunch as I wanted to do it today. Thank you all for your help

Ok, send me a PM. My guys can help you out since you only need a couple. I don't even see that they carry purflux which is the OEM, We do. Also if you have any MINI questions I am here to help also.

Michaelh57, I can't imagine any filter would be all that bad for just 1 oil change cycle. Unless you were unlucky enough to get one of those Fram's that literally just fall off the threads. And I'm not bashing Fram, I used exclusively them in a 96 Grand Cherokee. Rebuilt that engine at about 236k miles because of a broken piston skirt, there was no unusual fouling or wear anywhere to indicate the filter wasn't doing just fine. I just haven't used Fram since because...coincidence. There are many horror stories about them, though. I don't recall seeing horror stories of Purolator.

Yeah those Purolator ones are fine. The Fram ones (for Minis anyway) are not too bad either. They are just a cartridge so they dont tend to fall apart. They also seem very stout and even come with a new pan drain washer ect.
