F55/F56 Ignition coil?
Ignition coil?
Has anybody replaced their ignition coils? I have a modified f56 s with almost 60,000 miles on it and I keep getting misfires in cylinders 1 and 4 . I’ve already replaced the spark plugs and I want to replace the coil packs. Is there anything better than the stock ignition coil’s? Are there any better spark plugs out there?
If it's cylinders 1 and 4, I'd suggest you open up the intake manifold and peep into each intake head port and check those valves. Carbon build-up could be the culprit for your issues. If they are real gunky, you'll need to get a walnut blast job done for those valves. I suspect carbon build-up based on your misfire locations because I believe engine oil vapor which enters the intake system will very likely be "slapped" onto internal walls, and based on flow profile and air velocity, it's reasonable to suspect ports 1 and 4 being the most severe with carbon build-up.
As far as suspecting if it's problems with ignition coils, an easy diagnosis is to swap ignition 1 with ignition 2, and swap 4 with 3, then clear your codes and read again. If the misfiring codes did update to 2 and 3, then yeah, you sure the heck will need to replace those coils. So far I haven't heard these ignition coils being an issue nor are they becoming common enough to be suspicious.
If you are near Houston, TX, I can help with walnut blast. I got the whole shabang in my garage. Hope this helps, happy motoring.

Quite an initial investment, but considering I have 4 BMW/MINI vehicles at home, it already has beyond paid for itself.
