Hi, I just purchased a 2012 mini Cooper JCW coupe that only came with one key fob. Can I buy a used, same style key fob from another mini and have it reprogrammed to my car?

 

I believe so, but you still likely have to go to a MINI dealer to get it programmed, and at that point you might as well buy a new key. Not sure if the '12 R58 came with the rechargable fob or the replaceable battery. I'd be careful about buying a used example of the former.

 

Lots of threads on this, plan on contacting a Mini dealer.

and this has been 'the way' for a long time. Shortly after I picked up my new 2007, one of the FOB stopped working. A new one was a warranty issue, no problem BUT I still had to provide registration and picture ID to pick it up ..... security precaution . . .

 

minipartsdirect.com can no longer ship. You have to order and pickup in store. I just called them.
