JCW GarageInterested in John Cooper Works (JCW) parts for your 2nd Generation MINI? This is where JCW upgrades and accessories for the MINI Clubman (R55), Cooper and Cooper S (R56), and Cabrio (R57) MINIs are discussed.
Hello everyone,
I am new to this forum and happy owner of two R56 mini. One 2010 JCW World Championship 50 which is slightly modified and one GP2 full stock.
I am currently thinking to replace the turbo of my WC50 as i have the feeling that the turbo is getting tired ( does not push like before and ran out of puff too early ). Thus, I ended up on Lohen website and found a direct replacement Turbo apparently from the same manufacturer as the OEM turbo except the turbo is 41mm and everywhere on the forum peoples say it is 40mm OEM. I would like to know if someone could show me with a source (which i could not find) that the OEM turbo is 40mm and not 41mm. It is important as if the OEM turbo is 40mm then the car will need a tune with my new turbo and if 41mm, then no tune needed.
PS: the car is 67000km ( about 40k miles ) and equipped with an intercooler forge, centre muffle delete, and a tune to 247HP and 330nm ( 100-200 in 14.5sec). Planning to add a downpipe ( 200CPI), reinforced clutch, NGK spark plugs, Bilstein B14 or B8 depending of the homologation in my country, black powerflex, new timing chain from detroit tuned ( any experience with this ? ) , Walnut Decoke to clean valves and ideally a new tune.
My goal is to bring the car to around 270HP 380NM to keep it relatively save for the engine.
Any suggestion ? Add on ?
Thank you very much !
As long as a new tune is being considered, why worry about a one mm difference in turbo wheel size. There won't be that much difference in performance and the other mods will all contribute to the need for a tune anyhow.
Consider adding an OCC and WMI, both to minimize future walnut blasts.
I make and sell a 43/56 billet turbo. It would be a waste for you to change for 1mm and it mostly likely the same turbo you are already using.
send me an email if you have turbo or tuning questions
