Miltek header and cat-back went on today

Hector at RSpeed finished up at about 6:30. I have to tell you my initial impression is Holy S%&t. It feels like I have 20 more horses. I know that is not possible but the boost gauge has gone from 14 to 16 lb and it gets to 16 lbs VERY FAST. The car is "butt dyno" much quicker. I think that the extra breathing has let the TB, Unichip, and Pulley do their thing much better and even the jerkyness while not gone is significantly reduced and now instead of coming on at 3K does not start until 3.5K and is less severe. (English teachers please excuse that last sentence) So, I am very happy. The car is louder. There is no doubt about it. The exhaust almost totally drowns out the supercharger whine. (I like the supercharger whine). I think as a daily driver this could be objectionable for some but I just sold my Tahoe and put down money on a IS 300 Sport Cross which will see most of my work day miles. (Bilstein PSS9s went on as well...posted in suspension forum) I have to get used to the new power.

It seems to settle down at highway speed but it is louder. It is considerably louder while accelerating. I am in the audio biz and I have an SPL meter. I'll take some readings. I have no baseline from stock or the Borla street I just took off.

No problem but I used to ride with the back seats down like a small wagon for my dog and I put the seats back up to help with the noise. This afternoon it seemed very loud but tonight on the way home from work it semed OK. Kind of getting used to it. I can't believe the power difference. i was talking to Randy and he was surprised as well. the only thing I can think is that all that free breathing lets the other mods maximize. I was thinking about a head but I think this car is plenty fast. AP BBK is next and some TS-1s.

Tuning the Bilsteins is my big concern right now. They are so versitale that you can make things worse rather than better. the beauty of the HSports and Konis is you get what you get. there is some adjustment but no where near what the range of the Bilsteins offer. I'm going to drive the car for a week and let it settle then get serious about tuning it. I appreciate the tips I have gotten so far on the Suspension forum.

Congrats.

Not to highjack your thread, but is anybody running the Milltek header and cat back with the JCW package. I have talked to Steve at Steves Auto Clinic and he says the Milltek is the way to go, compared to the JCW exhaust. I am leaning that way but does anybody have any experience with this set up?

Dave has it on his car, you might want to ask him. I checked into getting it put on my works car but it doesn't seem to get you much hp for the buck.

Hey you said you gave up the Borla street??? Any reason why??

So the Millteks louder front and back? I've been looking at a header a while but was just going to mate it up to my Scorpion Exhaust.....

Or just the header? I thought I saw that his car had the JCW exhaust tips?

sorry for the misundrestanding, yes just the header. don't think you'll see too many works cars getting rid of those exhaust tips!

I just took off a Borla street and put on a Miltek header and cat-back and all hell has broken loose with my engine. The car screams. It is as impactful as the 15%pulley, CAI and original Borla. I have told this to Randy and he is surprised. the only thing I can figure is that the new exhaust is allowing all the other mods to maximize. Before header 178 at the wheels. Whe I get back to town on the 10th I will Dyno it again and see what reality is.

I highly recommend the header and cat-back.

I will say at the wheel the power increase will be a maximum of 7hp. Noise has a big psychological affect on perceived performance. I doubt the Miltek head and cat-back will give you 15hp/15lbs of torque, which is just what the pulley gives you. Besides the Miltek is only a few more hp than the Borla Street according to everyone's dynos.

you may be right and I will report the new dyno when I get it done but this extra 7 may be just enough to put the car over the edge (for me) and feel like I wanted it to all along

Your Joking right? Didn't anyone tell you, there is no edge to upgrading the Mini. Each new upgrade is "how the Mini should have felt" , and it satisfies for a period of time (some less than others), until the need arises to give it just one bit of power to make it feel like you always wanted it to. It is a vacuum that sucks all of us into it.

I also have the same header but with Borla Race. I didn't get the rise that you did probably because I've always had the loud Borla (even before Randy's pully party) but I'm sure you WILL find a difference on the next dyno. When ever you do many mods all at once, they do increase the apparent differences, both physically and perceptially. My last and only dyno with 15%, Powerchip, Alta TMIC, Alta CAI, Miltek header, Borla R (before Randy's TB or M7s NO2) registered a best of 193whp so good luck I plan on making another run next year with the Unichip, 62mm TB, the M7 AGS, 400cc injectors, and Venom. You'll be crying for more power too...I guarrantee it
