How to get a refund on extended maintenance plan in Colorado?
Hi everyone, I'm a first time car buyer and bought a 2019 Mini Countryman (exec demo w/ 9500 miles) last week. I was already very tired when I got to the dealership and I thought I'd be able to just buy the car and go home. Not so. I was there for 3 hours, and after negotiating financing, they tried to get me to add on a bunch of stuff. I initially declined everything, but then they rebutted and made an argument for the various plans I could add on. So I ended up adding extended warranty, tire/windshield coverage and extended maintenance. The next day, I found this forum and after reading through a bunch of posts, came to the conclusion that I wasted a bunch of money on these plans, and could just go to local mechanic who is a mini specialist who would charge half the price of the dealership service department. I reached out to the dealership for a refund on these plans and they said only the extended warranty and tire/windshield plans were refundable. They wrote "Maintenance unfortunately is not a cancellable contract. Upon opting in for coverage, the vin number is submitted to MINI USA and as a dealer we are automatically charged- there is no reverse action on this as the car is now enrolled into the maintenance program whether you choose to take advantage or not." On the contract, it says it is only refundable in certain states (not Colorado, which is where I am) or if the car is totaled. I threatened to return the car, but of course, the car is not returnable either. And really, I just want a refund on this maintenance plan. I just feel taken advantage of and the whole thing leaves a terrible feeling in my gut. Thank you for reading through this long explanation. Any advice would be appreciated!!
