Hi Guys, this is my first post and I would like some feedback on the extended warranty and extended maintenance offered to me by the dealership.
I bought my car 2 days ago, it was a really stressful day so we were just trying to get out of the dealership as soon as possible thus the extended warranty wasn't added to our total even though we had expressed our wish to purchase it from the get-go.
I guess my main question is can we add either on later, even though we drove the vehicle off the lot and 360 miles back home?
My other question is what is the difference between the two? What I really would like is coverage for the windshield, as I live in Alaska and they lay gravel for traction.
I plan on running this car into the ground, it's my first mini and I love it already but I come from Honda roots and this is my first time dealing with mini cooper. Thanks guys, excited to be here!
Comprehensive coverage under your automobile insurance policy will take care of glass damage. Extended warranties and/or extended maintenance plans do not cover glass damage. I've never bought an extended warranty but I believe they can be purchased at any time.

YES - well it does under my policy anyway ... you should check yours (each insurance company is different and even with one company, state law can come into play ... sometimes a special 'glass rider' is sold)
AND if comp' does cover your glass then ask what your rate difference would be to lower your COMP' deductible to zero from whatever you carry. Collision deductibles can impact your rates a lot, but IME the comp' deductible does not. In other words when I lowered my comp' deductible from $200 to ZERO my rates went up a few dollars a year.
Extended warranty can be bought at any time and many different companies sell them. You MIGHT be offered a MINI factory one, and it might be from a third party. READ and ASK. If you don't buy one now TRUST ME you will get many offers to buy b4 your factory warranty expires. I get several a week and I still have a year of original coverage!
Do not confuse extended warranty and extended maintenance. These are two different things. You might get an offer for one or the other, and maybe one for both but do NOT assume you are being offered both. READ CAREFULLY and ask questions.
IMO neither is worth the $$ ... but that's my opinion. I know a bit about cars and do a good bit of my own maintenance. The one time I bought an extended warranty, the first time I had a problem .... it wasn't covered. End of that story!

a MINI in Alaska? REALLY? More power to ya. I do understand that there is Alaska and then there is ALASKA having spent a bit of time in Dutch Harbor, Kodiak, St Paul and Adak . . .
On second thought ... being in AK you might not get all the offers I get ......

Thank you! I'm definitely not a car person so anything that gets me out of having to haggle with a car repairman for new parts is nice. But I think I'll definitely wait off on the maintenance or warranty since it just adds to the length of the factory warranty. Thanks again!

4-YEAR/50,000-MILE LIMITED WARRANTY
At MINI, our commitment to quality, durability and customer satisfaction is clearly demonstrated by the 4-year/50,000-mile MINI New Passenger Car Limited Warranty and a 12-year/unlimited-mileage warranty against rust perforation. And we're not just talking about a couple key parts of your MINI. Our warranty covers everything, bumper to bumper and everything in between, except the tires.
The MINI Extended Maintenance Warranty extends from 36,000 to 72 months / 100,000 miles for only:
$1,995 for COOPER Models
$2,095 for COOPER S Models
$2,195 for COUNTRYMAN and PACEMAN Models
That can be purchased and goes up in price around 20,000 miles. There is some wiggle room in those numbers listed on a dealerships website. I purchased this and it has already paid for itself with a clutch replacement. It only pays if you plan to keep it for 100,000 miles (but it will not cover flywheel--which is covered on regular warranty) Attached is a dated chart of the what is included.
As for the extending the 50,000 mile warranty, my dealership pushed a non-MINI extension which could ONLY be used at their dealership. I opted to stay away from the non-MINI ones.
the cornfusion come, when you say things like this, from folks who buy extended maintenance and later discover "it did NOT cover the water pump" ... which would be warranty
Or folks who buy extended warranty, and don't understand why they need to PAY for an oil change ......
