R50/53 Anyone with Detroit Speed Bypass Valve?
Anyone with Detroit Speed Bypass Valve?
I bought this from reading about it and since it’s been installed I get a yo yo effect in the mid boost range at part throttle. Drives me nuts so I switched it back and the effect was gone. So just recently I reinstalled it and yep the yo yo is back. Anybody else running these have that? Is it normal for those to do that?
yep I will be putting the stick one back on as well.
Have you ever check it for a vacuum leak??...maybe you should before calling out the vendor.
Bet you dollars to donuts that you have one!!!!
Have run one for 4 years, no issues...except when I have vacuum issues.
These things are notorious for leaks, especially at the charge pipe/SC gasket.

then I will take your money. I had a smoke test done by a local Mini Tech who was the shop foreman at Mini of Louisville. No leaks, not “calling out the vendor.” Just stating facts.

I wasn’t or intentionally calling out the vendor I just wanted to know if my issue was normal. I just think it’s weird that that stock one has no yo yo affect and when it was switched it did.

Add me to the list of users with no issues. I've been running mine for several months without a problem. I installed it after research hing solutions to the major throttle lag I was experiencing, which went away with the new valve.
I think that to a certain extent, no matter what you do.....with a vacuum controlled bypass valve, you are going to get some yo-yo affect depending on engine load, rpm, throttle position, boost, etc, etc....
My Detroit BPV had less yo-yo than the stock BPV, but it's still got some. It's just the nature of the beast.
