Light Coffee Color Advice....we need to match it perfectly!
As you all know Sh** Happens right? Well, getting slammed in the rear while waiting in line at a drive through fast food place isn't what we ever expected that would require us to have a new rear bumper cover. I am absolutely paranoid that the new paint will not match the surrounding original Light Coffee color panels exactly, because it will look like crap if it doesn't. Our CMS All4 only has 15,000 miles on it, so it's practically brand new!
Does anyone know what type of paint Countryman's came with from the factory?
Anyone with Light Coffee have a great match done before, and if so what did you use? PPG, Glasurit, etc?
BTW, sorry for the double post.....there was a delay when I posted the first time & I hit post again....my bad! Ok, now I need to hear about your paint experiences! :-)
Is light coffee a mettalc? Have only seen in pictures.
No, it's a solid color. See the pic of our '15 CMS All4. I'm finding how totally lacking the forum is when it comes to technicalities about the paint on our MINI's....amazing! It sure would be nice to have a little education on what type of paint is standard from the factory. I know water-based paint is what everyone uses mostly, but there's much more to it than that. Just asking the body shop to "match it" doesn't seem like enough to me. For years BMW's came with Glasurit paint from the factory, and maybe they still do albeit water-based no doubt. Having no metallic may help, but matching a color can't be that easy....ask me how I know! BTDT
There must not be much knowledge out there on paints.

Yes it would be nice to have more technical info on colors. Visiting one of the BMW forums they are comparing colors of cars, counting what combinations of car features and colors, how many are released in a particular color, combinations of interiors and exterior color... on and on
Kite Blue, True Blue, Surf Blue, Cosmic Blue, Starlight Blue,
Royal Grey, Earl Grey, Midnight Grey, Thunder Grey... is it grey?
Light Coffee, Hot Chocolate...

Anyone? Surely someone has had body & paint work on their MINI! I take her to the body shop in about a week & a half, so I'm hoping to know a little about the paint before then.
Hey, you don't have to own a Light Coffee MINI to comment on paint quality! LOL! I thought Light Coffee was a rare color but now I know it is! Nobody has any experience matching this color?....well, how about Chili Red or Midnight Black Metallic...or any other MINI color? Lots of "lookers" but no "comments"! I take her to the shop one week from today, so wishing for some responses before then. If not, thanks anyway. I will be able to comment on someone else's questions in the future, and hopefully I'll have a good experience.
Seems like any good shop nowadays has the equipment to do a good paint match. Our last repair had a great color match to Royal Grey. They messed up a lot of other things but paint was fine. If you don't like the work make them redo it.
Well, my body shop (that I've dealt with several times over the years....they've painted two BMW 2002's for me) and they matched the Light Coffee perfectly! So, I'm very pleased. But, I am having trouble figuring out how to attach the rear license plate holder to the rear bumper. They left this job to me. I will start another post with a pic. But, if anyone knows how to do this please chime in or PM me.
Thanks, but no....I want a totally "stock look". I will post up pics once I complete the job (in my other post). I'm figuring it out with a little help from others.
Shops use your vin# to order the correct paint for the job. In some cases if the car is older with some fade, they will blend panels so that the all panels match. If your car is like new, you should have no issues. Like Minnie said earlier, just make sure the shop is reputable and have them redo it if it is not to your liking.
