R50 facelift air filter is different from pre-facelift...WHY?

why are they different? facelift has that huge chamfer in one corner, while pre-facelift is a rectangular shape.

my 06 R50 has the huge chamfer air filter.

One of the changes for slightly improved performance over pre-facelift.

i would imagine to get abit more power at the low end.

i love that fact that i can shift into higher gear at low speed and the car wouldn't get bog down.

If I tuned the AC on in my R50, I could get out and push it faster than it could go on it's on, my R53 isn't much better in that regard. I wonder if a Sprint Booster or a tune could make that better?????
