Any Recent Factory Order experiences?

My local dealers don't have anything in stock that even comes close to what I'd want. I'm considering a factory order, I've done it before for both Volvo and Audi. So what's up with the new Classic/Signature/Iconic trims? Any recent experience with this? Are you bound to these three spec packages when custom ordering? Or can you pick and choose any/all specs you'd like?

You have to start with one of the three trim levels and add packages/options that you want. You can no longer pick your options. Sucks and it'll cost you a lot more unless the packages have the options you want.

I was able to get a MINI JCW Hardtop 2 dr with a Signature Package with the sunroof deleted. The Classic doesn't have the sunroof to begin with, but it has limited upgrade options and some of them I wanted. So they did the sunroof modifier. I also asked to get a grey headliner instead of anthracite and they said no.

Build your car on the website. What you see there is your options when custom ordering.
At the end you can save and print your build sheet and send to your dealer.
Only thing is right now you'd be ordering a 2020 and mini hasn't updated the website yet, so there may be some changes.
I believe prices have changed a little and more things are included standard. But I don't believe there is anything extra available that is not listed on the website so your build will get you close enough and then your dealer can tweak it as needed.

Well, I'm a bit disappointed about being held to one of the three Mini trim levels when custom ordering but heartened by your comment that you can delete the the sunroof - I hate sunroofs! I factory ordered an Audi A3 sportwagon about 10 years ago just to avoid the sunroof.

I factory ordered the A3 sportwagon just to get the roof rails, which wasn't even on the order sheets for the USA. I had to give my dealer the order code for those. lol

daughter bought a '19 'vert a lil while back and it was the first time I'd played with 'building' a MINI for a while

disappointed to see the full 'ala cart' ordering was gone ..... she bought an off the lot car but I had difficulty just building the car she bought on the web site ... it was SO obtuse .....

if interested here's what got me digging:

she bought a Cooper ragtop, signature with LED lights added.

her car has the 'brit flag' tail lights and I could not figure out how/why .... they are not mentioned as a sep option or mentioned in the LED option on the web site.

EVENTUALLY I noticed when you add the LED headlight option, and LOOK at the back view of the car, the tail lights change to the 'brit lights'

Q for anyone who has done a sunroof delete on a custom order - How much does this cut the price?

They deducted $650.00 for "Without Panoramic Roof" on my 2019 JCW with the Signature Package.

LOL, exactly. Just check all the boxes. So much easier that way.

Yup, I ordered a 2020 hardtop coupe full-loaded-ish (iconic) last month, it's at the distribution center now waiting on a window sticker. From what I gathered during the ordering-process, the website isn't as detailed as ordering at the dealership. I didn't want a sunroof either, that knocked off $750. Most of the changes from the 2019 (where the website is set to now) and the dealership (who are using 2020 options to build) are minor and cosmetic (a slightly altered grill, logo is available in black), the major being that my 2-door coupe will be 7-speed.

Thanks for this info, guys. I would probably do the Sunroof delete, as I don't like the fact there isn't a solid shade; only the mesh.

I wonder what other type of things they can alter for you?
