2012 R55 w/ Harmon Kardon to Apple CarPlay?

The other day, I was dreaming about adding Apple CarPlay to my Clubman, so I started surfing Crutchfield for head units. I've always had good experiences with them in the past, and they provide installation support and accessories for less.

While looking the the installation notes, I found it curious that they claim you cannot add an aftermarket head unit and still use the OEM HK amp.

Can anyone provide some guidance or clarification what would be needed to install an aftermarket head unit with the factory amp?

Send that TPNP owner a question about what you want to do. He might have some tips for you. Then again if you are brave you could look at one of the Chinese android head units and see if they will work with HK. https://www.seicane.com/car-gps-navi...v-dvr-s127017g

I sent him an email, and he said he does not support R-series Minis.

Curious about this as well. I have a 2010 r55 with factory nav. Has anyone successfully swapped out the nav screen for something more useful (CarPlay would be ideal, but anything that could connect to an iPhone, show song data and album art, etc would be a solid upgrade).

Do you have the iPod adapter already? If so, the Bovee / Tune2Air devices will do bluetooth with song data and working steering wheel controls. Retail is $90 or so, they go for less on eBay.
