I'm looking for input and hoping that some of you can help me out...

I'm putting together my spec for one of my 2011 R56 stereo systems.

Is there any reason NOT to run a true subwoofer, 6.75" like the Kicker 6 3/4" CompRT, 2-Ohm-DVC ??
Installed in place of the 6x9" speakers in the rear side panels... One on each side of the car?

The existing 6x9" factory rear speaker cavity and surrounding metal/plastic would be well dynamatted, sealed and dampened, .... with a CNC cut speaker adapter for a perfect fit.

I am looking for 'good' bass, not "Amazing Bass", or super high SPL's... Just good base to round out a sound stage for the front driver/passenger at moderate volume levels.

I absolutely am NOT considering any kind of Sub enclosure, nor compact under-seat amp/subs, nor any kind of sub as a false floor in the trunk... regardless of how much better or easier it may be.

I have zero concern for sound imaging for back seat passengers, if there were ever to be any.

These will be driven with their OWN amp with the appropriate active crossover limiting frequency from an aftermarket head unit.

BTW: I have 2 different 2011 MCS cars... and am entertaining Different audio options for both in case my recent different posts are confusing.

I'd just be concerned with plastic rattling. Do you have under seat woofers? I upgraded my under seat woofers to Bavsounds and added a 6 channel amp, so I am getting more power to a more efficient woofer, which isn't a true sub but sure puts out more than enough bass for my old ears.

This is in an R56, MCS... no under seat woofers... no desire to run them in that location either.

Any other input??

 

If you dig thru my old post history I believe I posted in detail about this. All other things being equal, a 6x9 would be preferable to a 6-7in round, but as you've already seen there is limited availability of those. Tang Band may still make something suitable.

Did a little reading on 6x9" Subwoofers.

For Sub-drivers....
What I'm finding for 6x9 SUBWOOFERS.... Not claiming to be 'Mid-Subs"..
I understand that there are limitations of the location I've chosen, the rear side panels... but I will work to make it a best-case-scenario with damping, matt, sealing and reinforcement... plus better wire to the amplifier. I'll also be doing my best to minimize panel 'buzz' with the same methods.

Again...This is for my goal of best sound possible WITHIN the constraint of using the factory location in the rear panels.

I've not really found an "top name" 6x9" subs out there... but here are some that I have found, maybe others can chime in.
I have no idea if any of the speakers below are decent quality or not.

With all of this being said... I may just leave the JL Audio C2-690tx 6x9's in there and only drive them with lower frequencies, since the rear panel mounting is not going to go really low Hz anyway.??
