Hello! Recently the turbo went out on my 09 R55 JCW and I am looking to replace/upgrade. I have the supporting mods intake/intercooler/exhaust for a stage 3 I believe. I have been doing some research around and found that there are a few options.

The most enticing is this Ebay turbo that comes with a downpipe, manifold, and a K04 turbo with the exact same specs of the frankenturbo with a lot more bang for your buck.

The JMTC S42 which from what I understand is a k03 hybrid and it seems like its a good option from these forums. No warranty.

The third is the Mambatek K04 upgrade which includes hardware and their own K04 rated for 300 hp. One year warranty

The eBay turbo with the manifold and down pipe looks to be a fair deal. I am a bit leery of the manifold though. The factory exhaust manifold is a pretty good unit. Doing a little porting and gasket matching will make it even better. The one supplied with the eBay package is suspect to me. There isn't very much in the way of flow directing. It's just a log the the exhaust dumps into and has to find its own way out. I ported my factory manifold and really like its design. I have studied fluid dynamics and done half a dozen heads in the past though. Ive installed the jtmc 42, only because i found a good used one resonably priced.

 

i see these turbos on ebay also and wonder how good they are. has anyone installed any of these options besides the jmtc turbo on a vehicle?

 

If you can do all the work yourself then it's probably worth the cheap price compared to the costs if you get a garage to install it.

As with most ebay stuff, some people have good results and others less than.

Check on YouTube for some builds. Most not on Minis though.

 

Turbos from Taiwan are better than the Chinese turbos on ebay if you're thinking about ebay turbos.
