Drivetrain Turbo manifold
Turbo manifold
hey again
i'am also writing in some danish forums, and some there are writing back to me with the answer, that the oem turbo manifold is bad, because it have badly flow. If, i'm going for a bigger turbo, will i then have to go for a custom made manifold, or what? I have seen that alta is going to make a part to put between the manifold and turbo, but is it good enough?

if i wanted a better flowing exhaust manifold, i would take the exhaust manifold and the gasket and have the exhaust manifold gasket ported.
in order for this to work efficiently the head and intake manifold would ideally need to be ported to the same diameter as the gasket.
there are also really sharp bends in the intercooler piping that restrict air flow and upgraded exhaust would help as well.
if you were to upgrade your turbo i'm pretty sure that you'd need to fabricate a bracket that would relocate the flange so that the turbo would squeeze behind the radiator support. it's pretty close with our little turbo as it is.
i'm sure the adapter that alta is planning is going to be good enough to do the job. i'm not sure of the specifics of the adapter; if it changes the flange or it just relocates the turbo, but i'm sure for a bolt on turbo upgrade it will do the job.
if you want a better flowing exhaust manifold i'd take it to get gasket ported at a machine shop or wait for the aftermarket to catch up.
