so ive been looking into new turbos ive heard good things about the jm40 and been leaning twords it. but i was lookin in ecs today and found the afe bladerunner gt series turbo. anybody ever use this turbo? how does it compare to the jm40? any thoughts???????
I don’t know about the other one, but I have a JM40 on my R60 and it’s a great little turbo. Feels bigger than 40mm to me, but who knows, I didn’t measure the vanes. With a tune to go with it, it’s really nice, not too big, so still a fast spool, but not so small that it runs out of breath.
Thanks grumpy! Its good to hear u like it since ur stage 3 n thats whare id like to be at some point. I was worried about the clutch also. Is urs a stick or auto?
Mine is an auto. But I know several people who have tunes including one just like mine but with a bit bigger turbo and the clutch is just fine. Talk to Mariokart about tuning and he can package a turbo and tune together too!
Just installed the jmtcs42 on Saturday. 11mcs with 74000 miles on original clutch with rpm stage 3 tune. The s42 from what I have been told is 46mm not 42, doesn’t really matter to me because the power output is perfect. The clutch does not seem to have any problems holding the power on a hard Pull but haven’t had much time to put it through the ringer yet.
O wow ok i thought a 42 might be to much from what i read but hearing that it gives me a lil more confidence in the clutch. Did you have to modify the intake tube? If you did do u have a cel from the pcv heater?
Currently I am running the N14 JCW intake with a foam filter with stock intake piping. I pulled the rubber gasket off the intake pipe that connects to the turbo for a temporary solution. I am piecing together a new intake and jumping out the heaters using the jmtc inlet hose and a NM intake. You can get the resistors from NM to jump out the two heaters.
I've had several different turbo setups on my car. I have an '07 MCS Stage 3? I guess a turbo upgrade constitutes stage 3. Currently I'm running the Borg Warner Airwerks Turbo, and I think it's great. I found it for a great price, under $1,000 brand new from LMPerformance online, no complaints. When I was looking at turbo options, I also stumbled upon the TTE300, which I almost bought, , but found such a great deal on the Airwerks, I couldn't pass it up. Depending on how big of a turbo you're looking for, I would recommend the Airwerks. They're supposedly good up until 300hp, which I haven't seen many stock bottom end cars exceed.
I've had a stock MCS Turbo to start, then went to a JCW, then to a JM40 (sold on NAM), then to the Airwerks, so I have some experience with a couple different setups.
The JCW was definitely an improvement over the stock MCS, but it wasn't like stepping out of a mini and into a supercar or anything. It will be a subtle improvement over the MCS. You'll get a little higher range for power delivery, lag wasn't terribly increased since it's still a small turbo. The Airwerks delivers even more, and a bit farther into the higher RPM range, with no real sacrifice in spool.
Hey BRGMCouper, I have an S42 right now and its failing on me (wastegate is going bad, super gone already lol) and I'm greatly considering an Airwerks. What made you switch over? How's the Airwerks holding up? Also how's your driving style, I want to make sure I have no more issues at the track
(Sorry for thread hijacking lol)
Borg Warner Air Werks 41mm turbo installed. She is running very smooth and there is no lag it feels like to this turbo.Definitely a power improvement over the stock unit, but fits like a glove.

Nice! Post the part number and a link to where you purchased it, I'm interested in this!
The M7 green intake tube was $50 less when i purchased it! WOOHOO
The car is running much smoother with this new turbo installed. I also found out my last shop that "walnut blasted" my intake valves 15,000 miles ago did a SH** job, so i had that done again as well.
Email MarioKart. He knows a lot and paired with an RPM tune you'll soon be afraid of whether your reflexes are fast enough to control the torque steer!
i've been in touch and really wanted to go with his tune/RPM tune but i chose my local shop to do my tuning incase of issue, its on stage 2 right now, max 18psi boost, and its running smooth as butter.
I have no issues running 22psi of boost on a rebuilt JCW turbo, worked head, supertec valve springs, catless downpipe, JCW exhaust. RPM stage 3. If you can find a good used low km JCW I would go with that unless you plan on running cams and more than 22 psi boost.
