Passenger Airbag Off Light next to the Rearview Mirror

Ok, today when driving I noticed that the "passenger air bag off" light was staying lit while driving with no passenger (and no car seat). I don't recall if it's done this before, as we haven't had the car that long, and my wife is usually in the passenger seat, or the other way around. I got out with the car running and sat in the passenger seat today and the light went out. It came on again when I got back in the driver seat to drive off.

I searched this issue on the forum and saw a lot of discussion about it, but I didn't see anything definite. Is this normal when only the driver is in the car that this light stays on? There are no warning lights on the center speedo cluster either, only the overhead light.

Do I have anything to worry about? Our 2015 CMS All4 has stock seats and it is not modified in any way.

Thanks in advance for any info on this.

Yeah this is normal. I may be mistaken but there is a lower weight limit for the passenger airbag in order to avoid injury to undersized passengers.

Yup, normal operation. I find it annoying, as I'm by myself most times in my car.

Thanks guys! It’s funny how you only notice something like this after 6 months of ownership! lol! I am learning how to reset the TPMS for replacing my runflats with great non-runflat Michelin Pilot Sports...I was getting the warning symbol on the dash....I reset the TPMS system yesterday. It’s different than what’s on my F56 JCW....the Countryman doesn’t show the actual tire pressures like the JCW does. They are both 2015’s, but the Countryman is old technology I suppose. Probably the same thing goes for the seal belt lights! Ha!
