Hello, to my MINI buddies in Hawaii
Hey all. I just wanted to tell you guys that I have moved to San Jose. I found my name in the MIA list, the other day.
The MINI dealership here really sucks. I just called to make an appointment, and I was told that my appointment will be two months from now. Maybe, it's because of the emissions recall.
I was involved in an accident in San Francisco in May, which cost over 7k to repair. Thank god, I had insurance. My car is good as new now, and I have added a few minor accessories such as the '05 cup holder and the euro parcel tray since then.
Anyway, it's getting cold over here, and I miss living in Ewa.

San Diego!
You must be the only person I know of that misses living in Ewa. I have three buddies who commute daily from there and hate the ride. Of course if they owned MINIs it would probably be a different story!
Too bad the SD MINI dealer is giving you a long wait. Is it maybe because didn't purchase your MINI there?
I am SO happy that MoH here is a good shop and service center. Makes all the difference!
Good luck in the new local and enjoy the endless miles of MINI-ing!
Aloha!

wow rupta, glad to hear from you! I love San Diego, up until recently, I had a bunch of family there, but they've since all moved to Oregon.
I've read about the long wait times at delaerships across the nation. I read one thread where the person was treated poorly because he bought his MINI from another dealership. yikes!
Yes, thanks goodness for insurance....but most importantly, thank goodness you (and any passengers if you had any) are ok. No amount of insurance will replace a life!
Good luck with your January 2005 appointment!!!!

I don't know why, but I have a strange feeling that you ended up at MINI of Mt. View which is part of the Allison Group.
As for living in San Jose, it's a nice place to live, but the cost of living is even higher than in Hawaii. When I was there in August, my brother was house hunting and we looked at Mezzamonte at Bella Villagio. Those houses were $1M+ and 4000 sq ft. However, the lots were small (6000 sq ft) and the houses were made of engineered wood. I asked my brother about the cost of land up there and he said it was pretty cheap as was the construction materials. It is just that the market demand keeps the price up. I mean construction of one of those houses should be @$300k and that's about it!
The plus is Laguna Seca is a little over 1 hour away, Dinan is 10 minutes away in Morgan Hill, The City is about 1 hour away and you have Trader Joes! Oh yeah, salaries are MUCH better up there.

i was up in santa clara for undergrad. great town for those few years. downtown san jose, just 5 minutes away, i didn't really care for. still as soon as school was pau, i couldn't wait to get outta there. it just seemed too hi-tech, computer, engineering for me. plus it seemed to be quite a ritzy place, and if i had a choice between same priced housing here and there, there'd be no contest. but i must say that for college, it was a great place.
a few months ago i was in san diego, specifically la jolla. now that's a ritzy town, very much like gold coast-diamond head-waikiki kind of ritzy. that's another place i think i woulda liked going to college at. now anything near LA, forget it.
as for ewa, or specifcally for me ewa beach...i'm just the opposite of most folks. i actually drive into ewa beach for work, instead of driving outta there. the traffic either way heading out on fort weaver or thru barber's point is just plain ridiculous. then, when i leave early sometimes at the end of the day, it's just as silly. even when i leave at 7 pm, the traffic is still backed up past st. francis hospital. and that doesn't even include when there's an accident or the road is flooded just past the hospital. i must say once i'm actually at work, i'm content to work there, but getting there is a haul from niu valley, espcially with those damn traffic lights on fort weaver being incredibly frustrating.
all i can say is ewa beach is...ok to work in. but to live in, i'd pass. and of course, if i had to choose between cali and ewa, i'd probably take ewa
