RIP Napoleon, My 2009 Black Cooper S—Does anybody want her?

She had 109,000 miles on her, but I worked hard to keep the engine clean. I guess I didn't work hard enough. After I got a check engine light, which was triggered by a couple of misfires, the dealer declared I needed a new engine. I couldn't bring myself to pay $10K for another N14 engine after all the work I had to do to keep it from drowning in carbon.

Dealer is offering $400.00 trade in value, as a courtesy. Does anyone in the Washington, DC, area want to offer a little bit more for parts? I had the brakes replaced three months, both front and back. The body is in good shape, and so is the auto transmission.

I'd be more happy selling her to an enthusiast than to the dealer, who plans to wholesale her. I don't want to know what that means, because I hate the fact that no one will be driving her. Okay, end of post before I start tearing up . . . .

I'd take it but getting it to us is the problem. If anyone wants to bring it to Atl we'll pay them

Not to tell you your business, but have you taken it to a different dealer, or an independent? If the engine is blown, I can understand some of it, but if you're just getting misfires, and the engine will crank and idle, it can't be "that" blown.
It still wouldn't be cheap to overhaul the engine, probably 1/2 the dealer quote at an independent.
$400.00 bucks!? Seriously??? That's just stealing from someone. If the turbo and HPFP are still working, those are worth more than $400.00. to someone.

Don't be in a hurry to part with it. Let some time go by and see what you really want to do.

I have a 2009 MCS also, with 160,000 miles on it. I understand your loss.

This. Take it to another mechanic and get a second opinion. If the dealer is wrong it wouldn't be the first time, or there's always the chance they're trying to rip you off.

Don't always trust them, it may be an easy fix or worse case is bent valve like mine, 0 psi for 2 cylinders. Do a compression test 1st and see if cylinders hold pressure. Another option is to buy a used N14 engine probably $1k-1.5k. Engine swap is pretty easy for R56/R55. For a professional, I would say max 5-6 hrs labor.

Hey guys,

Here is the vin: WMWMF73559TV39822

I had someone offer me $800.00 via private message, which sounds great to me. I don't necessarily want someone to outbid him, and I've been kind of negligent checking this threat out because I'm so upset by the situation. But, if someone has a better offer than $800 plus paying to tow it away, I guess I'll entertain it.

Does it still run and drive? I'd:
-ask what's causing the misfire, and post it here (maybe it's not terminal)
-after that, possibly get a second opinion, or throw it up on craigslist asking like $2500 & see if you get offers for $1,500-2,500. I think a used n14 is ~$2-3,000, and the car is probably worth $3800-5000 in good condition.

If it just needs head work it's probably not too scary to someone, and I could see it going for $1500-2000+

If you have the space/time, you may want to consider parting it out.

While tough to see it get get pulled apart, you’ll net a lot more than $800 that way. Couple of hundred bucks for bumpers, brakes, lights, etc. it could be worth it but it’s a pain.

There are companies that transport cars across country. I'd be happy to see if I can get a quote for you, if you're willing to pay for it. I'm not sure my Texas connection is going to work out.

I don't have a lot of time to make this happen, because I live in a condominium that doesn't allow me to have a nonworking car. So, I can't bring it home. It depends on how long the dealer will keep it . . . .
