I believe those were a one-off. I have yet to see production versions.

most carbon fiber peices are one-offs and usually custom made.

Only manufactured peices are the hood, and dash peices, the rest I believe are cf stickers.

I'm not a huge fan of cf so i'm probably wrong

Actually, we are working on having several items - including doors - made from the trick stuff. We are working on race quality items, with street quality close behind. The prototypes of a roof, bonnet, boot, wings and doors have already been made.

Keep a look out in the spring.

why is everyone so anti carbon fiber i dont get it.it looks cool you can paint it if you think it looks rice.and if you do it right you can save a lot of weight.just because hondas have it doesnt mean you cant use it on any other car.some of you guys like the bling bling stock rims that come on the mcs they kill your performance but hey they look cool.and if your not into performance at all well then why did you buy a mcs you should have just bought the mc.it all comes down to making your car lighter makes it faster and handle better.just my .02

randybmc

Maybe a replacement for the sunroof? MINI Madness did that on one of their project cars (in one off form)

whoh careful there! you could really **** alot of people here with a comment like that

people buy oem rims to give it that original look.. i love the look of aftermarket too, but just that oem rims have that 'just right feel to it' even if they weigh a ton, and since when is the s-spoke classic look 'bling bling'? i am not sure where you found that! unless you chrome them of course! and even then they are far from bling bling

as for cf, yes they are on hondas, but i dont think anyone has any negativity towards cf in particular, just cost

and finally, to say everyone who loves look should go for mc is just plain against the fact that ppl have their choice... i see mcs drivers nannying their car but it's too late to say you shouldnt do this... u can say tat about ferrari drivers who just show off... but it's their car! they can drive it down a street with bad rap playing and u cant say nothing cuze it's not your car!

the bottom line is people is free to do whatever they want to their mini, simply saying MCS owners who wants the original mcs wheels should go for mc cuze it kills performance or that it isn't performance oriented is just askin for trouble... someone can put huge 20 inch wheels, body kit, hydralics, huge subs, like the opentop thing.. think its the alpina mini is just wrong then i think ur just a bit too narrow minded... it's like saying all civics are rice, even if there are real nice B18 turboed civics out there...

All k20 said was if a MCS owner wasn't into the increased performance aspect of the MCS, a MC would surfice. (the lack of spaces and caps made the period hard to see)

Is the Ferrari owner showing off...? I mean, both Ferrari and MINI stand out in a crowd. How heavy are a Ferrari's wheels anyway?

it does serve a purpose....

if you, like me, hate the look, paint it.

bottom line is cost versus reward.

man

i have been thru this way many times.
me, i mod the car the way i wanted.
i want it faster than before, but there are no limits. you can get a intake to a pulley to a bigger intercooler and nitrous. you can also get the CF body and lightweight it and do the performance mods. there is no such a thing that you will be the fastest, you are only faster than before.
since i know i'm not gonna bethe fastest, and i'm not a pro racer and not a guy has all kinds of money for it, i just mod what ever i like.
I like the wheels, get one. i like to autox get some stuff, i like the TV in the car, add one in there! I thing it is cool to have a PS2 in there, take it out of the house and put it in.

we can't use our measurement to profile other people.
forum like this big there will be conflict on subjects, just like regular life. we just gotta talk about what we like and people who does not like it, give a singnal and we will get the message. this is not the place to fight and find out who is right or wrong.

If i like the subject and i would like to be involved, get in and talk about it. if you think this is not going the way you wanted, respect other people and leave them alone.

In the end, my way of living in the MINI communities.

"We are the MINI people, we are the happy people", right?

The roof is for racing only - a replacement for a tube frame car.

Hope that helps!

Be HAPPY!

i think a lot of carbon fiber is cool, rice or not. their are a lot of touring car circuits where the cars utilze carbon fiber, and noone ever says that they are rice, what gives?

your car, do what you want, rice, carbon fiber, bling, whatever. i or someone else may not like it, but dont let that stop you from doing waht you like

My concern with CF stuff is that the same guy who has a CF hood has 200lbs of audio equipment and dynomat all over the place. There are other places to lighten a car before those body panels, IMHO. How much of the dash do you really need? Windows? bah! Plexiglass is where it's at! Seats, no way! Milk crates and bungee cords baby!

I like the plexiglass idea. M7 had mentioned it as a good idea at one time. I just would not want it to cause any glare problem for anyone behind me -- maybe if you added tinting it would help or eliminate that potential problem. I don't even know if it would be a problem. I've seen camper shells with (plastic?) windshields that were a problem, but they may have been just plastic, not plexiglass (don't know). Anyway -- good idea!

Has anyone heard anything from RandyBMC about his development of street/race quality carbon fiber car body parts? I cant send him a message since his mailbox is full.

also, instead of plexiglass i was thinking polycarb (like eyeglass lenses) its light scratch resistant, and were you so inclined you could build magnifiers into them expensive as hell tho, definitely not a practical solution and glass still offers the best clarity and scratch resistance of any transparent material ive come accross

...and if you were building a touring car noone would laugh at you either. The differenence is obvious.

I don't care what people buy, but I do think it's funny to hear some one talk about spending $500 (made up number) for carbonfiber fenders to save 3lbs... and on the way home they stop by Best Buy to get CD's for their 1000watt system and swing through GreasyMacs for an extra value meal.

For many people, the weight reduction argument is a thing they say to justify a purchase they made for appearance/image purposes. Fine, buy it for the looks, but why be ashamed of it? ...and if you're really interested in spending the money for performance, your would get higher returns on your dollar elsewhere.

Then again, there's always the chance that I just don't get it since I've never bought a CF anything...

One reason for me not to do a carbon fiber hood: safety on the street. no crumple zones in that carbon fiber hood and I don't want to have mr. insurance guy giving me a hard time...similar to replacing bumper beams with lighter versions and what not. I've been in a couple of bad accidents (both people ran stop signs....bam...not fun) and will keep the factory hood. People seem to forget that those on the track normally have helmets and other gear to protect them.

someone help me out here cuz the general statements i see about carbon fiber dont mesh with what I 'thought' i knew about it.

1. very little savings in weight; in example i site the many times people say that you would only save 3 or 5 lbs off the hood. my understanding of car body carbon fiber is that at the same thickness as the steel its replacing its on average only 1/5 of the weight. if both of these things is true that would mean that the steel hood (minus the headlight clusters) would only weigh 6.25lbs! so one or both of these things is wrong (someone telling me the weight difference from actual knowledge would be appreciated)

2. Carbon fiber body parts are less safe; for whatever reason, there seems to be people that feel that they are not as safe as steel. again i am confused by this given the fact that if done right, CF is stronger than steel. now on the hood i know there is a second layer of steel undneath the skin which is a cross hatch of sorts lending the hood more strength, and a CF hood without these would of course be less strong, i did say if done right right?

anyway, I love the carbon fiber look, but if im totally wrong about both its safety and performance (weight loss is the last thingi would buy it for btw) then i think i can live without the stuff. help me out here
