2019 SE minimizing the chrome

before, big shiny side scuttle...

Got the car for roughly a week now, Really happy with it, with exception to some of the chrome bits on the car.. I’m totally fine with the window trim being chrome as well as some grill trim.. etc... But i’ve decided that the door handle, head/tail light trim, and the SIDE SCUTTLES gotta go..

First thing to tackle was the side scuttles.. Initially thought about replacements, but our car is just too new with such a small market, i really couldn’t find anything (not to mention taking it off..)
After removing the trim in the engine bay to try to take the trim off to paint, it’s pretty obvious that the best option is to mask things well and paint on the car LOL..

Im just usinng Plasti dip to get the trim to match as close as the wheel arch molding since they’re so close to each other, and the result turns out great! I used roughly a can of plasti dip with 5 coats on each side. Now just waiting patiently for all the stuff to show up from outmotoring ...

Looks good!
We did the black surround around the light too. Agreed that way too much chrome. The chrome looks cheap IMO.

Generally, I really like the look of blacking out the chrome on Mini’s, as it seems a bit excessive. Especially on lighter colors, like Mr. Funks white F60, that looks sick! But ever since I got my all black F60, I am starting to like the chrome, and think I will keep it as-is. Thoughts?

I agree^ A little bit of chrome looks great (hence I’m keeping the window surround as well as the Plugin logo surround. I hesitated with the headlight and taillight surround, but they do look better with my darker color exterior paint.

The only thing I really couldn’t take is the side scuttlet.... Kept catching my eyes when i look at the car...

Looks great! I find it annoying especially they gave us some black trim here and there (trunk handle, rear view mirror in black... etc). But sometimes I do wonder how far is too far in terms of blacking out trims since we have so much on our car.

On some items, you don't have to black-out, you can just remove...Such as the ALL4 on the sides, the COUNTRYMAN tramp stamp, and the Cooper(S)/JCW emblems on the back. It makes for a much cleaner look in my opinion.

Just bought the 2019 SE, I totally agree with OP that it has too much chrome overall... Plasti Dip soon...

Finally got around to doing this yesterday on my 2017 CM S All4. Super-easy, makes the doors so much cleaner and the back 1000x less cluttered. Next on the once-you-go-black list: door handles, beltline, roof rails and rocker panel inserts.

Before, during (because I'm perpetually a 12-year old) and after pics of my super-dirty car:

Looking great! Those chrome around the side scuttles are a mistake from the design team... it's just too much...
