I purchased a 2006 Mini Cooper S with just under 101K miles on it. It ran, moved, but has all of the symptoms of a spun bearing. This was known when I purchased it. Symptoms include uneven idle and lots of noise from the bottom end. I removed the belt and confirmed that the noise did not go away. I am in the process of replacing the engine with a lower mileage salvage. The engine is out of the car (note that the supercharger is already sold). I believe the head is fine. The block spins and ran, but obviously needs work.
From the sellers comments and my observations, it looks like it had a harmonic balancer (main pulley) failure and subsequent belt failure. The seller replaced the harmonic balancer (main pulley) and belt, but engine noise/symptoms were then found after startup. They decided to just sell it as-is at that point.
The salvage unit was more or less complete minus the transmission
Parts already sold:
Supercharger and water pump
I am reusing the transmission
I am reusing the plug wires and coil
Parts for sale include (entertaining offers):
Head - I believe to be fine
Block - Needs rebuild or possibly just new bearings (??)
Intercooler
Other engine parts
Engine is in 28139
