Any free (or greatly reduced) apps that I can use to change ECU settings?

So I saw a post over on Reddit about how someone had coded in their ECU which gear and when to shift onto his dash and I thought, "Hey, that seems cool, how do I do that?". So the OP said he used the app Carly For BMW to do it. Naturally, I downloaded the app, connected it to my Bluetooth OBD2 scanner, and saw a ton of options that I could change and a bunch of them I wanted to. So I started playing about and when I hit the button to code it in, I got greeted by the "Hey, give us some money please!" screen.

$59.99 a year. No trial period. No one time use fee. No thanks.

Started looking around the internets and I can't find anything that I would be able to modify the settings with that isn't outrageously priced. I can't see myself using this over and over again on my car and I'd probably use it one, maybe two, times and I'm not paying 60 bucks just to do that once.

My question is this: Is there an app that I can modify my ECU with that is free or greatly reduced from the Carly app?
