2006 MCS worth the money

I’m looking at a 2006 Cooper S that has only 58,000 miles on it and is I think the coolest colors. Royal Gray with the matte silver roof. It’s in super good shape and everything seems nice and is 100% loaded. Has every option you can think of and is completely stock. Two problems one is that it’s a long ways away and cannot go look at it without really really sure I’m going to buy it. The other is the price! It’s at a used car dealership and they are asking $7800 but then they say after tax and title brings the out the door price to $9600!!!! I am super disappointed as I only have half that money and would take me nearly a quarter of my money each month for a year to pay for it. The distance doesn’t matter since I want one that doesn’t have rust and I can keep in excellent condition but is it really worth the price. With all the problems I have had with my 2002 with 135,000 I don’t know if it’s worth it. I really love this one but don’t know.

So, what do you guys think!? This or something like a Subaru for that kind of money

First make sure that they know you are an out of state buyer (because out the door is probably for taxes, tags, and title work for the state that they are in). Second, Royal Grey and silver roofs are a 2006 only color and I agree that the color is gorgeous. Cant help with the price since Mini prices are all over the map. Some of it depends on mileage/condition/maintenance, sometimes which options it has

Be sure to run the VIN as have seen both JCWs and a GP listed as if they were just a regular S.

At that mileage although low for the year, would not be surprised that there is a leaking crank sensor o-ring, some leaking ps hoses and the struts are most likely toast.

Does it have complete maintenance records...a clean Car-fax? Can you get and check out the VIN #?

It looks like the car fax doesnt prove to be all good. One accident on the car, it was quite a long time ago though, but have been looking around literally the whole of the US trying to find one but nothing really out there at the moment.

I live in WI and dont mind making a long trip for one as I like to work on mine but it wasnt taken care of before me and isnt worth fixing something that is so rusty.

I just want one with halfway low miles and from a state that doesnt rust cars like WI. It would be my summer and nice day car!

But im a 19 year old trying to find something perfect for to little of money, going to college. Have a good Design job though!

Your ‘02 lights won’t work on his car. The tail light configuration changed in 2005 when the single reverse light was relocated from the bumper up into the tail light lenses.

Consider this - a 12 year old used MINI is going to require a lot of maintenance. There is a long list of items which begin to wear at this mileage and over the next few years. Expect to invest several thousand $ and that’s just for the routine items. The rest depends on prior owner maintenance and any open issues. A pre-purchase inspection by a knowledgeable MINI dealer is always advised.

It’s a gorgeous car in a rare color combo. It would be perfect if it also had an anthracite headliner and anthracite dash, and English leather seats. But that's just being picky and not a show stopper at all.

Just remember the practical side of R53 ownership goes hand-in-hand with the emotional side. Just trying to give a reality check here, as it sounds like the list price alone may already be a stretch for you.

But if you can swing it, and the car checks out, it sure is a nice one.

I understand the points you make and this is where it stumps me. I have no problem taking the price as ya I think its a great car but its the stuff that might happen in the next year that concerns me.
I have really enjoyed working on mine and was even thinking of restoring my 2002 but my dad said even if you have to change an engine, its going to be cheaper that fixing the rust and all the other things that need to be done (bushing, joints, tierods etc) It is my first car so gives it value to me.

So yes this is a little on the emotional side as I like everything about the small hot hatch and with a decently reliable engine and supercharged is perfect. But again is this practical...maybe, maybe not.

you guys are helping me see the issues with this and Im going to keep thinking about it maybe give them a call back see the best they can do.

ya tomorrow im going to call again see if all the extra tax stuff is correct see if it will be any less than i am gonna at least check and see what I would owe to the bank on it. I really like the car want something to take good care of as I like that kind of thing and to not have a little more money at the end of each month for a nice mini I think is going to be worth it for me.

So now that I showed it nobody that has money go buy it please! lol

Nice, its like a Park Lane edition, but we did not get those here. So MINUSA had these instead just without the park lane name.

Well I tryed calling back no response all day then emailed after lunch and still nothing. They must be a garbage dealer if they dont want business like what the heck. I work at a dealership and we at least get back to people.

What ever maybe its just not what I am supposed to get.

The search for an R53 continues.

Edit to last post. I guess they got my email that said how unhappy I was and looking like I might be getting a new mini. They had the stuff wrong so out the door price is nearly a grand better so gotta check with the bank. have most of the money just need a little more. So hopefully this will work and it will be worth it

Thanks guys
