04 B&W FS / Looking for input on selling price
Hello All,
I'm thinking about selling my 04 Jet Black, White Top, White Spoked (tire rack) wheels, F1 Tires, Tan and Black Sport Interior, Heated Seats, CVT Auto, Sunroof, Fogs, HK Sound System..I installed an S Front Bumper Cover with an Aero Grill and she has Limo Tint all around. I'd like to trade up to a S CVT when they come out...maybe a convert and the dealer is not going to give me what I need to get out of the car....31,000 miles. Any ideas...anyone looking? I owe 22,000...paid 26,500 w tax. Send me a pers email at bocd@optonline.net too if interested
Thanks
Bobbyn

If it's a base Cooper model, I think you will lucky to get $21,000 for it because of the high miles. It looks like you may be upside down (owe more than it's worth) on your current car. You may want to hang on to the car for financial reasons. Good luck...
Thanks for the reply...yea its a cooper....not an s. Actually If I could get 21,000 and it only cost me 1000 out of pocket to trade it / sell it to upgrade....I'd go for that. It's very clean...no scratches or dentsBobbyn
MC Resale Value
Bobbyn,
Your not in a good position and I can attest to that from my recent experience. I had an '03 MCS, Loaded, Chili Red with leather interior and all options save navigation. It too had 30K but otherwise in perfect condition. I had advertised it for sale for two months with nary a nibble. Everybody talks about buying a used MC but everybody wants them for next to nothing. The replacement value on my '03 was about $26K for a new one and the best offer I got on my car was $18K, way below what I had to get out of it. I ended up working out a deal with the dealer on a new '05 and got out of it. They sold the car pronto, somehow. If you watch the Marketplace and ebay ads for otherwise good cars the going rate is way below what they are worth and then some go thru the ceiling. The week before I put my car on ebay an identical car, mileage and all was sold for almost $22. The best I could get was $17.
You may just want to hang on for a while.

tom,
thanks for the reply....yes its funny how these things sometimes go...one of the reasons I bought the mini was because of the great resale...so they said. Actually they had some 1-year old cars in the showroom that were selling for only a few grand less than new...but now there telling me around 18,000 on a trade.. granted my high mileage is a problem.... ebay might be an idea

First, forget the tax you paid - that goes to the governor, and adds no value to the car.
Second, you did 2x normal mileage - I've seen many '03s with 15K or less. That will cost you (but I'm sure the miles were worth it!
)
Third, CVT adds $1,300 to the price, but is limited desired option
Fourth, If I add up what you have listed, an '05 would be $23,149?
(Cooper+Premium+Sport+Cold+Harmon+CVT+leather)
You must be adding on the price of the new wheels (did you sell the old?)
Put it on Ebay, Auto Trader, and here, and see what kind of bites you get, but consider #4 above when considering asking price.
(edit-added leather to '05 price)

Resale value?????
Bobbyn,
Yeh.....the good old..'high resale value' theory! This only works if you have a MC and don't drive it for fear of racking up the miles. Why by it then?? Just to not drive it to keep mileage low?? This is the third MCS in our family and we drive the cars like they are supposed to be driven. I tried Auto Trader, ebay and the Marketplace here and got no where. You're right about the dealer, when we picked our latest MCS up at the dealer he had a '03 on the floor for $23K with 30K but when dickering my 30K car for a trade it , well that's a different story. You see so many '03's and '04's out there with less than 10K on them. Where do these people drive?? To the corner store??
Good Luck with the sale,
Tom in PA

Your problem is the extras - tires, wheels, aero kit and tint won't get you anything on the used car market. So that's what - $4000 or so right there. Tax is gone too. Honestly, I think $17-18k would probably be the best you'll get esp with those miles.

Resale Value
Eric,
In my experience with my '03 MCS loaded with all packages, but nav, and leather and in absolute perfect condition ,other than the mileage, there is no way in hell you could get the $23K high side figure. If someone has bought one like this I would like to talk him/her.
These numbers are dreamer numbers and in the real world they mean nothing. Great if you are a salesman selling a car, bad if you are the consumer selling one.
I would agree with the previous posts that holding high resale values is not in the cards for MC owners.
