Newbie MCC on order..some questions
Hi gang... I recently discovered this site and would like your assistance. I live on Long Island and recently became interested in the Mini Cooper Convertible. I test drove one at Habberstad Mini a few weeks ago and fell in love. My past cars were a Mercedes 2001 C320 (BORING), Audi Allroad (fun but a little bland), A4 (loved that car), Jeep Liberty (really no need for an SUV dunno why I had one) and now I drive an 04 Prius (actually love it more than any of the other cars I've had!!!). The MCC will be my alternate vehicle. I have no problem springing for the S but I was mainly concerned with the firmer suspension even when coupled with 16" wheels. Truth be told, the MCC I test drove with three adults seemed adequately powered. Long Island roads and NYC roads are really horrible in places. The last thing I want is a way too firm ride. I felt the MCC with 16" wheels would be a good compromise albeit with a little less power. I was fortunate to find a dealer that can get me one the way I want it, by the end of November. Any comments from folks on either side (S or non S) would be greatly appreciated. TIA
Welcome djasonw!!!
16" wheels seem a good choice based on what I've observed (...I myself have 15" wheels and a standard suspension.) The biggest problem seems not to be with the suspension but with the run-flats....very stiff sidewalls contribute big time to a rougher ride. But, to be honest...some MINI owners like it rough!!!
Converting to a good all-season tire would probably help a lot....especially if your roads aren't that hot to start with.
That said, your MCC on 16" wheels will probably be fine. You can tweak it later perhaps, but the basic setup should be fine, unless you are ultra, ultra, ultra sensitive to a harsh ride.
Cheers!!

I test drove a MCS cabrio a few weeks back, lots of fun,a real hoot with the top down. There is way more GO than my MC
But a soft top is not the right car for me,could only really use it 4-5 months up here in the Great White North. And I need the hatchback, one for the Lab who is always with me,plus I have to hual tools for work sometimes.
And one of the reasons I got a MC is the good mpg,not great, but good.35-38mpg on my daily 100 mile commute
But if I could I would love one as a weekender:smile:
