R60 MY new 2012 Countryman S All4
MY new 2012 Countryman S All4
Picked up a 2012 Countryman S All4...It has 36000 miles, there is a light that comes on for some kind of service in 02/2018, I guess I am just supposed to bring it into my Mini dealer at that point and they tell me what its for? lol...I have never owned anything with such an elaborate warning light system but then again I haven't ever owned a "newer" car...I have just been a bum an drive my old beaters until they die, I didn't want to pick up something new cause its been so long since I have had a car payment that I just didn't wanna deal with something expensive so I got somethin that I actually like but won't think twice about the car payments... anyyyways...
What should I be on the look out for as far as issues with this year? I know they are expensive to fix and all that jazz...but I don't know what to look for for this specific car, mind you I don't know much about cars...this has kind of driven me to learn though. (I can't stop with the stupid forums in any free time haha)
I would like to eventually start modding it...but go high not low...2in lift, tires etc. I don't want anything crazy, I just like the kind of dune buggy look...I am concerned that in doing such mods will make stuff wear out super quick and if I add something to the car it will just break in 3 months and i will be stuck with a crazy repair bill...
I do know my tires will need to be replaced before anything else since they are the factory set, still decent tread but will need replaced before anything unless something bad happens...the tires I reaaaallly want I think are a little too big (215/60R17) 1.1in larger diameter and .4in wider than what is on it right now. I have heard that you don't want to go more than a +3% increase in tire size and they are runnin about 5% (not sure why)...I don't even know if they will fit for sure but I THINK they will...I have searched a ton on the forums for anything but only found someone with success running 205/70R16 and they are .1in larger than the ones I want but not as wide.
I don't know if this is even making sense since I am a few deep but yea...I am a proud newish owner of a Mini Countryman...When I tell people I got a Mini they look at me weird, is that normal? lol

Welcome to NAM.
With long distance diagnostics the more information you provide the better the dart throws are. What does the light say? Have you thoroughly read through your Owner's Manual as would assume the light you mention is discussed?
Also suggest that if you have not already done so that you browse the Fixing Problems and Issues here in the Countryman section

I have a '13 Countryman S ALL4 and just put new tires on it a couple weeks ago. I went oversized as well -- 215/55R17 in my case. They work just fine and I haven't noticed any speedometer discrepancies or other issues.
I went with non-runflats -- Continental ControlContact Sport A/S: http://www.continentaltire.com/produ...1555zr17-94w/?
I've been really happy with them. They ride a LOT smoother than the oem runflats did and this is probably one of the best cars in the snow that I've ever driven. VERY responsive.

I just put on some 225/55/17s, but they are on et42 7.5" wide wheels so I am not sure if they'd fit a stock wheel and not have contact somewhere towards the inside...would be close
If someone is successfully running a 205/70/16. then the 215/60/17 should fit just fine. Tires all vary in size, but it is technically about a 1/4" less in diameter and hardly wider.
