This is the tow hook. If your car ever breaks down and needs to be dragged onto a flatbed, this screws into the front or back bumper and gives the truck something to latch onto.
Thanks. Kinda was thinking that. From my past experiences, tow truck drivers have told me they would rather pull from something on the frame under the car rather then the bumper. I'll put it back under the seat anyway.
It goes under the front seat until its needed. Make sure its in there tight. Most people dont know its under the seat in the Countryman and cant find it when they need it.
A towing eye.
If and when needed, screw it into the corresponding threads after popping up the semicircular cover
on the front or rear bumper skin to reveal.
Had to look and did not find the tow hook under the seat. Basically tore the car apart and found it. But it was in a pouch with a screw driver, a cap for something ?, screws for the license plate holder, (we only have a back plate issued here) and their business card. Good to have the hook since I didn't know of it, but didn't know of the pouch. Something new ?

Yeah, so they can then haul the car to a buddy's shop and have the bent suspension/steering replaced.
The tow eye bolt is just fine for pulling the car up on a flat bed or for pulling it out a snow bank or ditch. In fact I wouldn't be surprised if the car could be lifted by that eye bolt. They are tough kit. Forged steel.
When my clutch went last year the roll back driver went right under my front seat and pulled it out. He then popped the license plat off the front screwed it in and pulled the car up on the roll back.

If the Mini ever needs towed, I'll demand they use the tow hook.
