Mystery electronic box left rear corner

Hi ya'll,

I'm just curious: What is the electronic box (with a bunch of wires and a heatsink) that is visible just inside the left rear lights access door? This is on my F56 S model. From the block diagrams I can find the ASD module should be far forward from this and I'm not sure what else it could be...

Without your showing pics or diagrams I'm guessing you mean the HK amplifier. Mine is disconnected because I think it is pure crap. But that is a different story.

btw - left/right means little in a car for me. Passenger vs drivers side better!

Either part of the sound system (the amp) or the ejection seat control module. You do know which button activates the ejection seat, don't you??? We're not allowed to disclose it on blogs.

And I keep forgetting, is it toggle left to eject the driver and toggle right to eject the passenger or is it the other way around and don't you have to open the sunroof to cancel the safety override? And is the left/right toggle the same on British spec RHD cars? And if there's a deployment does it show up on the Carfax report like when there's an airbag that goes off.

All this new tech....

Naw, the toggle switch with the safety flip cap is too big.

No, the sunroof has exploding bolts like an F18 canopy.

Yeah, I heard that too. I checked with my Service Adviser. Turns out all MINI's used to come prewired for NOS. But you had to buy a factory-approved NOS mini-bottle for the gas -- it had to be small ennough to fit in the secret compartment. And then they discontinued the secret compartment, so the whole thing turned out to be a bit of a scam.

I think the reason some people retrofit secret compartments into their 3rd gen cars is they want to fit a NOS system. Only problem is, the last remaining supplier of the mini NOS bottles went broke and shipped the last of their inventory to North Korea.

Sad story all the way around, or so I've been told.

Ah yes HK amp - that makes sense! (though the placement seems odd wrt the location of speakers/head unit)

You lose the in-dash center speakers with a 6 channel, which is actually a non issue to me and a good thing for many stereo purists.
