Cleaning Dust...

What is the best product on the market to clean dust from the exterior of my new MINI Cabrio. I only plan to take her out in nice weather, but when I park her at work it gathers dust on the exterior. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance

I've had good luck using a California Duster, just make sure the surface is cool before dusting

 Ditto what Jimbo said. We've been using the CA duster for years. They are readily available at most Auto part stores and Wal Mart...

Chow!

CA duster is good...I just got an Oxo "Good Grips" set and I like it alot, too. (...its IB like my MINI...I an SO out of control! )

If my MINI gets too dusty, though, or if its rained on a dusty surface its off to the car wash. It's important to know the limits of what a duster can safely handle, imo, if you want to avoid scratches. Also, don't rest the duster on the paint surface like a mop....use light (or no) pressure. Shake it out a lot.

Car Wash and Car Covers

Do you think that it is OK to run the Cabrio thru a brushless car wash? Also, Since I am going to put it away for winter (Cleveland winters suck!) any recommendations on a car cover? It will be in a heated garage! No possibility of snow touching this car.

With the size of our Minis, there is just no reason not to wash it yourself. Do yourself a favor, and you Mini one also, and use Zaino products only. I use them and as far as I'm concerned there is nothing better.

I have a "hand-wash only" policy with my MINI. I use the wand at my nearby do-it-yourself car wash for rinse only....the rest I do w/ a cotton chenille mitt, shampoo, and a bucket.

Seems like a fairly light weight car cover would work inside in the winter. But stay away from the MINI car covers...I hear they scratch.

The Cal Duster is $12 at Target. I use it every day. It works well. Jimbo

1. California Duster

2. California Water Blade (try Target stores)

3. Good quality microfiber cloth

4. No commercial car wash. Do it yourself.

Get a car duster. They're cheap and are basically mop heads treated with parrifin wax.

I got the california mini duster from promini.com just last week. It was one of those things where I smacked myself for not buying it years ago. All those times where you've just cleaned your car and and the next day it's still clean but has a layer of dust. One minute of quickly wiping it with this and it would be clean again, instead of completely washing it.

The OXO one looks to be a slightly better product and is also available in large and small (I think the small is just fine for our car). autopia-carcare.com carries them.

I use the CA duster and interior duster myself.

Be sure to place the duster on a newspaper for at least 4 days (wiggle
the mop head a couple of times during the 4 days) before use.

There's just too much wax on the mop head when new...will leave
streaks.

I would also recommend you get a detailer spray and a soft terry towel.
I use the QuikDetailer a lot. I rarely wash my car since I only drive in the
dry.

The CA dusters are great.

Be aware there are two different versions. The cheaper plastic version (about $10) and a premium wood handled version (about $20).

The cheaper one is more common at Pep Boys and what not...but the premium version has thicker yard and is worth the extra $ IMO. Really great for keeping the dust off without scratching.

How long does a C. Duster last?

I work with many cars and the cars get dusted weekly, around 40 cars. They do not go outside. They do get dusty, though. Is there a "life" to the duster? One of my employees said that the dusters don't work anymore. I've had them a few years, but I thought they got better as they got more use.

Can someone help me. I will replace them if I need to.

Thank you in advance!

I have been using the same duster for over 5 years... it still works great.

The only thing you might need to do on occassion, is to wash the mop
with mild soap. Let dry completely and it should be good to go again.
I would not recommend strong detergents (like Dove or Ivory dishsoap)
but a watered down mild hand soap will do fine.

I've yet to do this on my exterior duster, but on the interior duster
I had to do it once.
