If you have the hard drive in your sound system you can copy music from your computer via the thumb drive to the hard drive. Note any thumb drive should do this: nothing special about MINI's.
I got one that looks like an R56: you pull the nose of the car off to get to the plug. Unfortunately, it's only 1 GB, so I use my own stubby 16GB flash drive for MP3s (about 5 straight days' worth!).

My R56 first service was just over 3K, because it starts on the first date of service. The date it was built. Sat on the dealers lot for 9 months.
It was 1 year or 10K.
