Parking in New York city?

Alright my girlfriend and I are going to Germany this Sunday to visit her family. We are from Michigan and it was way cheaper by $1k a person to fly out of new York (jfk) than from MI. We decided to do that and make a mini trip out of going to New York since neither one of us have ever been there. My question is where is the best place to park? At the airport or are there other spots that may be cheaper? I'm also afraid to leave my car at the airport for 10 days. I am afraid someone's going to either hit it, break into it and or steal it, idk maybe I'm just paranoid. What do you guys suggest, I've even thought about contacting mini of Manhattan and seeing if I could pay to park my car at the dealership I don't even know if they would even let me though. Any input would be great, thanks!

Sounds like an awesome trip! I would call the MINI dealer and ask if they could store it for you, or if they have recommendations. I am pretty sure they would have some idea where to safely park. Maybe one of the MINI nuts at the dealer would even put it up in "private storage" for you. You won't know until you ask.....

I haven't been back to NYC in a long time. Parking in NYC is going to be a small fortune. Then you have to get to the airport. Best bet is a secure Airport parking location, probably $20 day or so. Odds of being stolen from a good lot are pretty small unless you have some highly desirable $100,000 MINI that we will be in awe of and thieves will be salivating over.

Insured car, park it and have a good trip. Stress about your car isn't worth it.

Why does NYC get such a bad rap, BEST PLACE ON EARTH!!!!!!... Plenty of covered/uncovered parking at the airport...

JFK is not in Manhattan, it's actually on the border of Queens/Nassau counties. Nassau County is Long Island.....which is NOT NYC....

yeah I know it's not in Manhattan, I did a quick Google search and found a dealer in Manhattan that I may call. I've never been to New York and I have heard some stories about the airport which then made me a little paranoid. I'm excited to go to New York for the first time, just nervous to leave my car in a city I've never been to before while im across the world is all, especially after hearing some bad things.

I wouldn't stress too much. There's plenty of other much higher value cars there parked in those lots. Like the moocher said, insured car = enjoy.

I use to Park out at Newark Airport Long Term Parking then ride the TA bus back into NYC.

But back then the bus ride was only a few bucks.

You would rather park in NEWARK than in Queens, really...

" mini of Manhattan and seeing if I could pay to park my car at the dealership I don't even know if they would even let me though. " I know about them and contacted them a while back. Nice people. Unless your MINI is being worked on I think they charge like $35 a day or something.

I found the best place if you can go to Ikea on the Brooklyn side/ park and they have a fairy that takes you down by the Brooklyn Bridge. Last time I was there they did not have a tow sign. You might be able to do that for a couple days and move the car daily but other then that is the underground parking garages that are pretty crazy and expensive. The airport is cheaper.

Another place is the JFK long term and when I was there last it was new/clean and they had a big security fence, new lighting. That's what I would pick. Newark airport i have never parked at.

I have been to NYC about 4 times with the MINI. Top down in the city of course.

Currently in germany right now and loving it! I ended up parking at jfk long term parking. It was $18 a day and it was nicer then what I was imagining from stories. Huge fence surrounding it, a lot of lights and I felt fine parking there. All I have to say about NYC is that parking sucks haha. I knew it would be bad but Damn. We stayed at an airbb in Jersey and got a parking ticket first night. I was afraid of getting a parking ticket in NYC so I ended up paying to parking in a garage for 12hrs. Also part of that was because I could not find free parking in Manhattan on Saturday. Absolutely crazy, it was fun I would enjoy going again but man it's a whole new world haha.
