My mechanic said sway bar bushings are shot. I went to order some new ones and was stopped in my tracks when he said it's a 27-28mm front bar. I'd rather do poly bushings, but I've only ever bought oem bushings. Are there any considerations in shopping for these? like outside diameter and such or are those pretty standard?

I was eyeing these prothane bushings:

Prothane is $19 shipped vs $35 for the Hotchkis... Not a big deal but $15 is $15 and if they do the same job...

 

I would first verify you have an aftermarket 27mm sway bar as the largest bar that came from the factory was 24mm.
If it is an aftermarket bar find out what kind and get those same bushings as that way you know they will work with that bar and it's brackets. If you find out we can get you any of them you need.

 

Well he measured it at either 27 or 28mm, I'm guessing 27 since that's a much more "common" bar, albeit not exactly widespread. Is there a difference between hotchkis and H&R 27mm bushings? With the same mounting point and limited room, I'd imagine that they're about identical save for material.

The H&R bar looks like it may not come with poly bushings, though. Everything I see about Hotchkis is that they come with polys. If that's the case, I most likely have an H&R bar if the bushings are worn out.

 

I am having the same issue what did you end up getting i need new bushings for my 27mm h&r bar and would also like poly if possible. I cant even find the replacement h&r ones. Any help or advice would be appreciated!

 

Did anyone ever try these replacements? I'm facing this situation with my H&R bar now also and have seen a few options out there but since they are universal I don't want to get something that doesn't fit well. The Prothane's seem like a great option and the brackets seem very solid vs. the Energy Suspension parts which the brackets seem much thinner and wouldn't stand up to abuse well. Looking to do this in the next couple months so any input is welcomed.
