Painted Wheel Arches?

My local dealer has a (new) F56 JCW for sale with painted wheel arches. Is this some sort of new refresh? I've never seen painted wheel arches on an F56, outside of custom jobs. I actually really really like the look.

Ive not seen that before either. I kinda like it too. Makes waxing the car a whole lot easier than trying to keep from getting some on the plastic arches. Also eliminates any sun fading to the plastic. Sills and bumpers are painted also.

Yeah, I like it.

Probably custom painted. Always loved the look of that. Since mine is black it isn't as big a deal for me, but with any other color I prefer body color arches. If I liked red and $43K cars I'd be all over that one.

Just called the dealership, and they said they had it done by a local body shop after they took delivery on the car. I think I might have to go get it done on mine. The huge black plastic arches on my $40k+ car tend to bother me sometimes, haha.

Did you ask them how much it costs?

No, but they said they can't do it for me, they just gave me the name of the body shop that did it.

I bet you're looking at something like $3000 for that.

1. Sand down to smooth plastic
2. Filler
3. Sand
4. Maybe second filler
5. Sand
6. Guide coat
7. Sand
8. Adhesion promoter
9. Maybe primer, if the adhesion promoter doesn't also act as primer
10. 3 base coats
11. 3 clear coats

That's assuming you do disassembly yourself.

Not sure I like it ... makes the car look short and fat, although it could be the photo. I did like the body color arches on the Gen 1 JCWs, but they still retained a bit of black trim. Be interesting to see what the cost is.

Definitely DO NOT go to a body shop for this.

Go to any race bike/car plastics painter, tthey are used to heavy prep work, they ll hammer this out for 1000 easy. We get complete fiberglass sets for race bikes done for 800$.
I can recommend some of you want.
SBK paint in CA would be a great place to start.

I agree! It makes the proportions of the body and wheels look even more unbalanced than in stock form. The F56 body is bulky so why stray away from the typical MINI look by making the body look even "larger"? Maybe it looks better in person & depending on the color, but every car I've seen with painted arches so far just looks "wrong" to me!

Not a fan. Makes the wheels / tires look tiny! Maybe it would work on a different color.

But then again, I like plastic fenders & cladding on cars in general =)

I love the painted wheel arches. Wish I had the guts to get mine done in red. Not many people do this on these forums. As I recall it usually costs about $2000. $1000 would be a good price IMO.

Same here.. I don't find the body color wheel arches appealing.
I love the black contrast on my VO MCS.. that includes the black roof, side mirrors and rims.

I think they would look better on a dark color car. Don't care for the way the one in the first post looks. Sure wouldn't pay extra for that one.

I like the painted arches on some models. That red car just doesn't look right. I think it actually has to do with it being a bigger car compared to the 1st Gen Model. Here is mine before and after ( I hope these load ) Granted car has been lowered with the painted arches which may have helped the look.

Looking at above comparison photos, I like the look of the car with the original unpainted black trim pieces. Like someone said the painted trim pieces make the car look FAT and unsporty looking.

But it is true that wax getting on the unpainted black plastic pieces annoys me like crazy.

I really like that orange Cabrio's painted arches. That was a good color too. FYI if you buy Black Wow for your black plastic trim it comes with a wax remover product that works really well. That stuff lasts forever too.

Mini calls it not without a reason BLACK BAND
a major part of the design.

Painting it, is a sacrilege, especially in the color of the car.
You can shape it extend it, but it should be always black.

There was a year or two where painted arches was an option from the factory not just a dealer deal...

+1 for Black Wow I am a loyal Adams polished user but the VRT dressing fades and streaks on my car. Being an 06 R53 owner I listened to a friend that has had an 05R53 and 10R56 that used this stuff. I think this is what other companies have in their products that are similar and cost way more-it was $14 at my local Harris Teeter grocery store lol

I saw that the other day and on the F56, maybe its that color or the F56 and those wheels. On the gen 1 and Gen 2 MINIs it looks good especially if they are painted gloss black.
