Radiator fan stays on after car has turned off

Hi there,

I currrntly have a 06 Mini One Seven - the radiator fan stays on long after the car has been turned off and continues to stay on, until the battery is drained completely flat. It will only turn off upon disconnecting the fan, or when the battery goes flat completely.

Does anyone know the source of the problem or any solutions? It seems to be a regular problem in these models of Mini, however I am yet to find a successful solution.

Have checked and verified that the fan relays are not sticking?

+1 on what capt_bj posted, but I would check green relay first.

I had the sticking relay problem which caused the fan to not shut off. On another forum I found a suggestion to hit the radiator cover near the label with the side of my hand.

Apparently the relay was sticking and that freed it up. That was several years ago. I also found a similar "fix" for my driver's side window when it wouldn't go down. Side of the hand bump just forward of the door handle/tweeter. That was also a few years ago and I recently experienced the same problem with the window. I remembered where I hit before, did it again and the window resumed functioning. That was around four months ago.

I like free remedies.

Yes, you can bump the relay and it can unstick it. Good idea. But if it does not work just replace it.

One the window motor its the "Fonzie method".

Exactly. My wife actually found both fixes online and after they worked we joked about opening a Fonzie Garage for fixing only these types of problems...and jukeboxes.

I looked at the Uroparts relay kit, it says it's for 2003-2008. I have a 2002 MCS. Would that still work?
