R50/53 MINI now pays for rental cars!
I spoke with my service guy this morning and he said he has just been notified of a change in the MINI "no loaner" policy. When your car is in for service, MINI will now pay for a rental car for you for up to five days, $35 a day. He said apparently enough MINI owners had griped about the old policy so the Powers That Be decided they needed to make a change.

Yes, when I had my car in last week... I called MiniUSA and they told me I would be reimbursed for an Enterprise rental car. Meaning pay for the rental out of pocket, submit the invoice... and then wait 6 weeks for them to process the request.
I hope this is not the 'official' case. You would think the dealers would pay the bills directly and let MiniUSA reimburse them so you are not out the funds for over a month.

Humm.. My MINI is going in for a headlight check/programming/boot latch fix.. i'll have to send off an e-mail about a rental, as my dealer didn't mention it...
Thanks for the info...

Hello, thanks for writing in.
Unfortunately, MINI Division does not have a loaner/rental car policy. This is up to the individual dealers. Most of our MINI dealers do not have a loaner program set up at this time.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us. We're here to help. LET'S MOTOR.

I think that MINI dealers / service depts are like all other car dealers in this respect probably!
None volunteer loaner cars, and most even say loaning cars is not their policy...
but if you beg, threaten, and then pitch a fit, SOMETIMES you get a loaner car.
(P.S. - I haven't tried asking for one from my service dept yet)

The squeaky wheel gets the grease! I complained in writing to MINI USA and BMW North America about a bad service experience at one dealership and ended up getting every complaint addressed at another dealership with a totally FREE (gas, mileage, and all) nice new BMW 325i for both days the car was being serviced.
MINI should have a nationwide loaner car policy, but they don't and I bet they won't- too expensive. But, on the other hand, they do care that you stay hapy with MINI, so voice your concerns if you're having major problems getting your car serviced or having financial hardship/inconvenience for going without a car while your MINI is serviced. They'll listen!

It wouldn't be bad if we had MINI only shops... but when we have to fight with BMW's for shop time, it gets silly... I got a call a few days ago that my headlight bulb was in, and I figured that if I gotta take my MINI in, I might as well get some other work done (fix that darn boot-latch so it opens up when I hold down the remote button (and no, i don't want it to open/close my windows.. I use my boot a LOT...)), and finally get my car memory programmed (the only thing that they could do when I picked it up was the running lights...)... but my appointment is not untill the first week of December... glad it's nothing that needs fixin right away... and it's a drop the car off in the morning, and we'll get back to you when we get to it.. silly me, I guess I expected a little better service then my local muffler shop...
