2-Spoke hub crack

Thought I could polish out what looked like a scratch in my 2-spoke wheel center logo plastic. Grrr, it's a hairline crack. I was hopeful this is an insert piece that covers the wheel removal nut. Before I start poking and release the airbag into my face I hoped someone else had ordered a replacement hub or recovered from airbag compression.

For better or worse, I recently had a close encounter with my driver's side air bag. That ring/badge assembly on the 2-spoke wheel is, in fact, hinged. It pops open when the air bag is deployed. Seems like there must be a way for the dealer to address cosmetic damage, but I'd recommend caution if doing it myself. My opinion...

I would not screw around with that center hub.If you are to close to it and the bag blows, you stand to get very hurt, and now you have a big bill to get a new one.Take it to a dealer. It's not a wear item, and your warrenty will cover the fix.Even if off warrenty let someone else put their face in front of that bag.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but the center hub lid of your 2-spoke wheel is a non-serviceable item, in other words, the hub can not be replaced separately as it is integrated into your airbag system. If you even attempt to thinker with it you risk blowing up the airbag in your face, so don't do it!

If you want to order a new center hub, you have to have the entire steering wheel replaced.

Sorry dude.

Doh, the entire wheel assy? Oh yeah and I'll just bet the dealer will be delighted to replace it under warrantee. - not

I'll call to varify wheel exploded view doesn't list it as a seperate part number.

Suddenly I don't like the term "exploded view".

I hear that!

I had both door panels replaced (yes, the entire panel) because the paint on the silver trim was "failing"...it was all stratched up and had somehow softened. Now the downtubes are going to be replaced, too. If you can, let the dealer look at it. If they can verify a defect, like they did on mine, it may be replaced...and, unbelievably, you might wind up w/ a whole new steering wheel?!?!?!?!

If not...the aftermarket really should consider our constant need for cosmetic repairs to easily damaged parts as an opportunity.

actually they should be happy to replace it, they get paid for it and the parts dont cost them aything. also for them it should be a quick fix since that is what they do and they have all the correct tools.
