Firestone Firehawk INDY 500
Firestone Firehawk INDY 500
Anyone have experience with the Firestone Firehawk INDY 500 tires?
Initial reports are very good and price is very reasonable. Tire Rack rated it at the top of the class - Ultra High Performance Summer Tires.

Do they have the grip? I was considering them for my mini it's a daily but I do like to drive hard just like anyone and I don't want to skimp out on tires. How is the road noise with them? I was considering potenza re71-r but I'm afraid with the tire ratting I won't get more than a summer out of them. I drive a lot. The Indy 500 just a good price.

They are ok,I do feel that my traction comes on few times as I drive hard and front wheels spin and the grip is not there on hard take offs but cornering has been great and they look great on the car.

So you feel they are louder than the re's is it an annoying type of road noise if that makes sense. I've been in lifted trucks with tires that have so much road noise that it's annoying. How was the tread life with the re's compared to firehawk? The firehawk is a 340 tire so it should last longer compared to re71-r. Just trying to see if spending the extra $40 per tire for re's is worth it. But I feel I'm going to get just as good of a tire for less with the firehawk.
so my theory of only getting a summer out of re's is probably right? I'll do over 6k miles of driving on a summer tire before changing back to my winter tires.
I dunno, I Only autocross and trackday these tires. Once I got my camber dialed in (-2.5 and about -2 rear) I was able to extend tire life by like 3 fold.
I have no idea how they wear on the street

Just got them, awesome tire.... We've gotten tons of rain in the last few days here in ATL, I could not make these tires break traction... trust me, I tried...
If you are looking for reasonable tire wear with some good grip, then I would skip the RE-71R's. They are a tremendous tire for a 'weekend warrior', but I wouldn't go for them on a DD unless I didn't care about life expectancy. I run RE-71R's on my 'weekend' Mustang and love them, but not a good fit on my DD Clubby, IMHO. A couple of friends that run the 500's really like them and seem to be getting good wear out them as well, much more than my RE-71R's. YMMV.
