Name change........

A week after it's 2nd birthday I have changed my '02 MCS's name. Originally, I called it 'The Zoomer' because while driving I always felt like I was zooming around. However, some months ago I added a Helix 15% pulley and this week, a GIAC chip for my ECU.....the two most significant mods among a number of others. The new name is because it's driving nature has changed.......and you better believe it, for the better. Now, it's 'The Silver Dart'........it always feels like I'm darting around all over the place in my ds/w Mini which also sports a splendid, silver M7 ultimate grill and white bonnet stripes. In the cockpit there is a silver alloy-patina dash and a silver Whalen shift ****. The new name just feels right. Has anyone else done a name change?

No, I kept the original name given to the car. I call it a 2003 Mini Cooper "S". I never understood people having to name inanimate objects? But if you feel it, keep dartin' around.

I agree with kramseib. What is the deal with naming cars? It is a bunch of metal and plastic parts. Sure it is a great car and I like it, but I think giving it a name is too much. I never understood it.

rebuttal to mood-killer

We name our cars because we grow emotionally attached to them. Do you name your pet, or have a pet-name for your S.O.? Yes, it's the same concept

It's not the same. A pet is a living object. A car is just a mechanical device. I really like my toaster, but I don't name it. I also really like my house and am attached to it, but I don't name it.

My cars only get names when they break down, and I don't think it would be appropriate to post those names here

I hope you folks aren't always a rain cloud hanging over the picnic.....and that Ryephile's explanation has helped you to understand why alot of people enjoy naming their cars. I would think that even though they are both inanimate objects.......you have alot more affection for your car than you do for your toaster. This thread was intended for the Miniacs that do and those who feel otherwise would do well to just leave their two cents in their own pockets if they have nothing to offer that's constructive or.........come join us and have a little fun. Peace.

Ok, sorry for hurting the feelings of the "miniacs", but I still don't see how you can receive anything from an inanimate object. If you talk about your car at the office as if were more than a car and use it's name, I think you will get a lot of strange reactions/looks.

Its bad enough we have to deal with people that name their cars. Its bad enough we have to deal with people that name their body parts. Now we have to deal with people announcing name CHANGES. What attention ******!

Hey, Joe! What's with the "we"? Annointed yourself to represent and speak for all the other members of this site, eh....sounds pretty egocentric and delusional. You seem to have a real knack for putting other people down. Exactly why is it that you're having such a hard time "putting up with" nuts like me who like naming our cars? Anyone getting hurt? There are lots and lots of us out here  so we should probably know about it if we're causing any harm. Just how seriously have I even inconvenienced you such that you feel compelled to make an issue out of it? Ya think name calling and senseless criticism are welcome by the Mini enthusiasts who visit NAM? Your responses are inappropriate, misguided and quite unnecessary. This site is NOT about taking pot shots at each other. It's about sharing, cooperating and enjoying exchanges with each other. Time to grow up, JoeDentist.

Thanks for the feedback, Lot15! The Silver Dart is the most fitting name I've ever had for a car......glad you like it. As I said, it just feels right.......and I love my Mini, inanimate as it may be.

Couldn't ya find 18" chrome spinner wheels for that Showboat! How about posting the state you're licensed in. I would be delighted to engage your service as my current dentist has a habit of not insulting me.

whew, this thread sure went south quick..Ok herby,YES I renamed my car-WAS MAXXX, is now ZANE GREY.Don't put a lot of thought into these critics, if you want to name (OR RE-NAME) your car, what's the harm? If you don't ,THEN DON'T."If you don't believe in abortion,Then Don't Have One".(One of my all time favorite bumper stickers)

TOLERANCE PEOPLE!

There’s nothing new about naming inanimate objects. Buildings, roads, bridges, ships/boats and yes even cars have been named since their inception. If you have no care to name your car, don’t, but why get down on someone who wishes to personalize something by giving it a name.

BTW one of the houses I lived in the UK had a name. I had no address other than “Brick Kiln Cottage” which was the name of the house, not the road I lived on.

My friend chris bought a 480 year old house in the Shetland islands called "kinkwall". After he bought it, he was able to refer to himself as the "Laird of Kinkwall"

Ah, the name thing. I personally love it. Some people don't. That's okay if you don't, but you don't have to riducule those who do.

Well my car really doesn't have a name other than Pedazo de Oro which means Piece of Gold. I can 't think of a name though.
