GGGGrrrr......HPFP

Some of us, if not the most, do not like just replacing parts when they fail. We want to know, at least me, WHY they failed!

So, the big question is, why do the N18 engine HPFP fail? what is about the design that makes it fail?

I tried using N14 solenoid and it did NOT work. I noticed the openings are bigger on the N14 HPFP solenoid.

I three pumps that my R60 does not like and i also have an N14 HPFP that i can spare for this experiment.

any thoughts?

I thought long and hard about the subject until MINI replaced mine for free out of warranty. Gave up and moved on to other subjects.

The HPFP fails on a lot of BMWs in general. Maybe Germans can't design fuel pumps.

Rumor has it that running the tank low on fuel can lead to HPFP failures. I also read on another site that it was the ethanol used in gasoline that causes the failure. I dont recall ever reading exactly what lead to the failures. What i do know is that this has been a problem for BMW and MINI models for about 10 yrs now/

I'm pretty sure this has been discussed here at least a couple of times before this....

What makes it fail? I disassembled one and it had a weird looking grease type and two spring loaded pistons. The mechamical part looked ok and self sustained. The solenoid looked fine although i did not test resistance or operation as a single unit.

I read that. I will try and replace the pressure sensor and see if that helps. I already reset the adaptations few times now with same results.
